This by far gives me the best layered black and tan ever. I got pretty good simply pouring down the side of the glass, but the boundary line between the Guinness on top and the lager (or Pilsner, or whatever) on the bottom was not as clear as I wanted. I've also tried various spoon techniques, including the Guinness bent spoon; these were improvements, but still not as good as this layering tool, which makes it *much* better.I read in one of these reviews that if you put the bottom beer in the freezer for a while, it would work better. I guess that's because doing so would increase the specific gravity of the beer. So, I put a bottle if Guinness American Lager in the freezer for a few minutes. I also the can of Guinness stout (with the widget!) out to warm up a bit, following the same principle. Most Americans drink their beer too cold anyway, which numbs the taste buds, so this gave a good effect.I did this and the layering was just about as good as could possibly be achieved. You do have to pour the Guinness slowly, and it's a good idea to start doing so it while the stout is still a bit frothy. Plus, if there's a bit of a head on the bottom beer, that seems to break the fall of the stout and retard the mixing. I've never seen a sharper demarcation line in the most authentic Irish pub. Excellent tool, and I recommend it to everyone with no hesitation whatsoever!

As a person who likes to drink Black and Tans beer. (Harps on the bottom w/Guiness floating on top). This beer separates just as nicely as the bartending spoons I used years ago! Easy to use and quick clean-up too! Great product!

I’ve bought a few of these now as I tend to loose them. Layer just right using a normal pint glass. The farther the nitro beer needs to drop the higher likelihood of mixing.

This works way better than the turtle spoon, but still requires a little practice. The trick to a good black and tan is having the correct beer that floats on top. I bought Guiness Draught in a bottle and it lacks the nitrogen ball of the cans. The draught in a can is creamier and the nitrogen helps it float on top. A work around I found for bottles draught beer is to remove it from the fridge for an hour before you pour these. If it is slightly warmer than the bottom beer it will float much better.

I love this product. I tried to make a black and tan several times and failed miserably because I did not know you needed a tool like this to achieve the perfect pour. Sure, you can pour one off the back of a spoon, but that's boring and your drinks can be inconsistent. I've found that The Perfect Black and Tan Tool works best on top of wide-rimmed glasses, but I've been getting very good results with this. It's also a conversation piece if you have company over. Overall, if you love drinking black and tans then you should absolutely buy this.
