I have enjoyed your books so much! They bring me great joy. But your best is Kat Hallowell's mysteries. Simple, no frill tales with the most beautiful and real characters. I would love to try her recipes. Seriously!

Nice to be back below the stairs with Kat, Daniel, Cynthia, and the rest of the wonderful characters of this series. This time the mystery is personal for Kat, her supposed husband's first wife shows up asking for help from her about the husband's death and money. With a possibility of some money to help her difficult life she agrees to look into it. She finds he didn't die on his ship, and oh so much more that she really didn't want to know, but she figures it all out with the help of Daniel and a few new ones to meet. Very good mystery and finding out Kat and Daniel's younger years is always a plus. Excellent writing, plotting, and slow reveal of a 12 year old mystery. Looking forward to the next story.

I enjoy this historical mystery series and it’s unique characters. The aspect of our protagonist being a below stairs cook and learning about that life and function is fascinating. The series is progressing slowly but surely with the romantic undercurrents and underlying mysteries / background stories of each character.

Jennifer delivers once again! I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns of this plot. I’m always pulling for Cat and Daniel. This story was exceptional while it showed three budding romances. They were there all along, and I’m excited to see what’s gonna happen in the future.

The Below Stairs series is a favorite of mine. The characters are engaging, interesting, intelligent and undergo continual growth. This makes every book a joy to read. In addition the mystery plots are well constructed, equally engaging and very much appropriate to the time frame for the novels. In this novel I loved learning more about Kat and Daniel’s early lives and seeing them interact as their relationship grows. I also love the fact that the author does not rely on explicit sex, gory scenes of death and destruction or fall into the trap of sermonizing on today’s concepts of social order through the mouths of her characters.

This book was somewhat different as it was more about the Heroine finding the true story of her past. Like the others, I sort of had a thought of who the villain could be, and ended up right after ruling out the other possibilities. Quick paced, all the characters working together as usual. I was sorry James didn’t seem to have as big a part as the other books. Good news, Book 7 is now available, bad news is the audiobook doesn’t seem to be available yet. I continue to listen and very much appreciate the narrator’s female voices. As before, though, I’m not quite as fond of the Hero’s voice and some of the other males. The hero needs to be stronger! Anyway, I will report on Book 7 as soon as it’s finished. Happy reading, all!

As always from the first word to the last, I stayed engaged with the story. What a good read - some sleep deprivation was involved. Kat, Daniel, Cynthia and company are intriguing people I love to "hang out" with. At last the mystery of Joe Bristow is solved, and Kat can move on. New characters have been added, which will make future Below Stairs even more interesting. Can't wait for the next adventure of Kat, a woman before her time.

This book has background stories for Kat and Daniel which is satisfying for followers of this series. The usual cast if secondary characters play their part in solving the mystery. There will hopefully be more adventures for all. I hope Vicar Errol will get a story of his own someday as he is my favorite bad boy !
