I have only tried this once when a button came off my shirt sleeve. It works, and this product has captured this hand-stitchers attention and curiosity.Regarding texture, this thimble tape feels unlike any tape I have seen. It has a coating of some sort, maybe a Γ’β¬ΕwaxyΓ’β¬Β feeling to it. It does not impact fabric, and I do not want to give an impression of a coating transferring onto fabric. It does not transfer. Whatever this stuff is made of remains 100% on the tape and no feeling of waxiness is on my skin after using it, nor on my clothing! No residue anywhere! On Efficacy:This works! I only wrapped each finger 4 times around and then I squeezed and squished it, molding it around each finger. It does remain exactly as I placed it. Some slipping did occur with first encircling though after two laps around each finger, all slipping halted. I highly recommend watching the instructional video for usage and application instruction. If you have never seen or used this product, you are not alone. I am a decades-long hand-stitcher and I have never seen the thimble reinvented like this - and I am thrilled to have found and tried this.Indeed, the thimble has been reinvented.TIP: no need to throw away your tape after usage - this thimble tape is REUSABLE.

ASIN: B0DS6KQ372 $8.99Thimble Tape for Hand Sewing - Fully Adjustable Nail & Finger Protector - A Smarter Alternative to Classic Knitting Thimbles - Sunshine, 2-PackSo, I tried the product out and it works as described. I think it will be great for things like knitting, crochet, and embroidery where the needles are on the larger, thicker side. But I hand quilt and Betweens are both very fine and very sharp. In addition, Sharps are SHARP, and Straw needles--both sharps and straws are used for piecing--are both fine and sharp. I've been using adhesive leather for years, first the dots you can buy and now my own cuttings from adhesive suede (intended for the bottoms of dance shoes). I think the dots give me more flexibility and better "feel," without any chance that a really fine, sharp needle will penetrate. So while this is a great product, it's not really right for me. Nevertheless, I'll be happy to keep it in my sewing arsenal.

I recently hand-sewed the binding on a quilt and used a leather thimble for the first half and this stuff for the second half. It took a bit of getting used to - I ended up pulling it apart and re-wrapping it a couple of times before getting it how I wanted it - but in the end I definitely prefer this to the leather thimble (and I prefer the leather thimble to any other kind of thimble). It fits snugly to your finger and I found an ~8" length sufficient for using with a small and thin needle. If you are pushing it through heavy fabrics you'd definitely want more layers but for quilting cotton it was fine. The thimble tape is wrapped around your finger and can't really be wrapped around the top of the finger, but as you should be pushing the needle with the side of the tip of your finger it still works great. The first time I wrapped it too loosely and it was easy to pull it apart and wrap it again, no need to cut a new length to redo it. Furthermore when I took it off my finger it kept its shape, so could be set aside and reused indefinitely. It doesn't move around on my finger like a traditional thimble and although it sticks to itself well it isn't sticky in the slightest. I think this is a fantastic alternative to a traditional thimble.

This tape is not a magic tool. It's a practical support tool to carefully use in stitching. I found that I had to just pay attention to the placement of the needle as, yes, if not positioned in a good spot the needle will absolutely go through the mesh tape. But, I have also found that if placed correctly in a spot where the mesh creates a barrier this tape absolutely does perform as it suggests. It was comfortable and not terribly bulky. I really like the fact that while the tape sticks to itself, it does not stick to You! This makes reusing one "thimble" wrap easy if you wrap it to come off after you are done with your project.I can see myself getting a lot of use out of this tape especially with certain projects.

I have mixed feelings about this thimble tape. I love that I can cover one or multiple finger when hand sewing, and the material does a good job of sticking to itself. It works really well on the pad of the finger, but doesn't always wrap well around the tip, often catching on the fabric or grabbing the thread. It does work to protect your fingers from being pricked, but you can't push with as much for as you would with a thicker pad or a traditional thimble. Wrapping the material thicker does allow you to push harder, but at the expense of dexterity.

I thought this would be a very useful item for handiwork. I think it could be better in the following ways. It is a bit scratchy - what I was working with snagged on it a little. It cannot be torn; it has to be cut with scissors. It does not stay on the finger tips, comes off. I know it is not meant to stick to skin but it does not have the stretchiness to mold to your finger. Compared to the medical tape I've had put over bandages or the one my vet uses on the dog after taking blood it is not of that quality. I give 2 stars because it can be useful and it's a great idea. Just need to find a way to work with it.
