These are exactly what I needed for the job. They install easily with a soldering iron and their tapered design makes them fit nice and tight without slipping or rotating.

I used one of these to replace an insert in the valve cover of a 2011 Ford Escape. A bolt to hold the spark plug coil in place uses this insert. My kid had cross-threaded the bolt in the original insert, and when next tried to remove the bolt, broke loose and spun the insert. We had to cut the coil off, then pull the insert out. Now that the hole was enlarged, we could not heat set one of these inserts. Rather, we used hot melt glue to bond the insert in place. The insert is held in place sufficiently well that we can bolt on a new coil. So, I did not use the insert as intended by heat setting it, so cannot honestly rate it fully with 5 stars. However, I can state that the insert appears to be of good quality, the threads are well made, and I believe it would work well as a heat-set insert; it is working sufficiently well as a glued-In insert in an application that does not require much torque.

These short heat inserts are the only type that can be used with the project I am working on. They are performing the intended purpose very well and are easy to work with. I have purchased many sets of these and will purchase more.

On my string trimmer the case had M4 screws threaded into the plastic case. After a few seasons the holes were to wallowed out to hold the screws, All the other inserts found would have stuck out the back. These were perfect and have held fine all summer.
