Easy to anchor in on roof, a person could use an impact socket for faster anchoring but would always tighten with socket wrench. I'm 200+ and have felt very comfortable on roof while pressure washing with Hisea fishing deck boots.

TLDR: Solid tie down anchor with plenty of support!Got this for some light roofing/chimney and gutter replacement work we've been doing on our house. Safety is super important, esp after my father-in-law fell off his roof a few years ago (thankfully made it out okay with a few broken bones and now some neat metal plates in his body). Since then, we've been hiring out the work but it's come to a point where we need to replace a few pieces and getting up there to work on it myself it easier. This (and my safety rope/lanyard and ladder stabilizer) was the only way I was allowed up on the roof and honestly very happy I did! I'm still super cautious while up here, but I've tested out the whole setup on the low roof side and am happy to report that it held up and didn't break off the roof with my +200lb build. Also tried it out with a sheet of plywood and my weight and it didn't budge at all. Happy to report that it's was secure the whole time and helped ease my wife's anxiety about me working on the roof. Overall, solidly built, easy to use, and held up nicely to my testing!

3-line Grade 5 - SAE J429 bolts3/4" or 19mm socket for bolts (19mm is tighter)Reversible plates for thinner or thicker seamsInstructions clear and completeBefore this item, I would belay off the chimney which wasn't optimal for the entire roof. This gives a close to a bombproof top rope anchor that can be fixed closer to the work area. I attach the top of the ladder and my climbing seat harness to the clamp using my climbing rope and carabiners. If I were to use it more, I'd probably get a full body harness and safety lanyard, but my climbing equipment works just as well.It clamps onto a standing seam with 2 plates squeezing with 4 bolts that are torqued to 50 foot-lbs. The plates can be reversed to work on a wider or narrower seam. The 130-year-old roof has narrow folded seams so I flipped the plate over for the narrow setting. The ring is welded closed so it's a permanent part of the clamp. A safety lanyard or carabiner has plenty of room to clip on.It holds super tight. I think the roof would pull free before the clamp slipped off.Even though there was what looked like soft sealer and multiple layers of paint, the clamp didn't move and scrape anything off. There was no damage apparent.5 stars - This will keep any fall short as it can be clamped close to the work area. It can also be used to stabilize the top of a ladder.

This is a review of the Tie Down 13864 Two-Way Standing Seam Fall Protection Roof Anchor. This may be one of the most unusual items I've ever gotten.I'm not quite sure why I decided to get this, other than it looks really interesting. I suppose there might be a time when I would want to get up on my roof and do some work, and not falling off that roof would be high on my list of things to do. And I'm guessing this would help in that circumstance. The item is a very hefty piece of safety equipment, and would make a formidable weapon as well as preventing a fall from above. My verdict: 4 stars.

As a roofer, I do my fair share of standing seam roofs every now and then. Safety wise, metals roofs can be pretty darn tricky to navigate both with how slippery they can be, and trying not to damage the product while you're installing it. Normally for fall protection we nail two anchors on trusses at both sides of the ridge, and run a cable between them. This method works great for large decks without any protrusions or dormers, but for smaller, cut up roof decks, this hefty guy really comes in handy. All you do is tighten the bolts on the seam, and voila, fall protection. At first I was concerned about the clamp damaging the seam, but it didn't and was totally fine. I'm definitely recommending it to my roofer buddies, and buying more from this American company. 5 Stars!
