Product Description

Nucleus-M Wireless Lens Control System WLC-T03
Endless Lens Control Options in the Palm of Your Hand
Nucleus M Wireless Follow Focus with RED Camera Hollywood sign

The Nucleus-M is a revolutionary and highly customizable 3-channel wireless lens control system. It allows you to have full control of focus, iris, and zoom on either the FIZ hand unit or between the two wireless hand grips. You can even split control of the channels between the hand unit and wireless hand grips as you see fit with the push of a button.

The wireless range of both the hand unit and hand grips is 1,000 feet and with the planned upcoming transmission upgrade, the range can reach up to 1 ¼ miles! This makes it ideal for drone or car-mounted shots.

The hand grips can be attached to the included rosette mounts for handheld operation and can also be attached to top bar-based gimbals with the included Nucleus-M Hand Grip to Gimbal Adapters or to ring-based gimbals with the optional Nucleus-M Hand Grip Universal Gimbal Ring Adapters.

Each motor has its own built-in motor drive that communicates directly with the hand unit and hand grips. This negates the need to mount a separate MDR to your rig, allowing for a more compact camera setup and a quicker setup time. Simply set the motors and hand unit/hand grips to the same channel and you will have full control.

The motors allow for automatic calibration of the lens as well as manual calibration if you are using lenses that don't have hard end stops at close focus and infinity. The motors are designed to clamp onto 19mm or 15mm rods (with the included rod bushings). This clamp-on design allows you to easily attach and detach the motors without needing to remove any other accessory from your setup. Every motor has a 0.8 mod, 35 tooth, 32 pitch gear attached, which is the standard gear size for cinema lenses.

Compact Small hand unit that offers 3-axis control
Details

To power the motors, only one power port on your camera rig needs to be used. Simply plug the P-tap power cable into one of the motors and then daisy chain power to the rest of the motors with the short 7-pin to 7-pin cables.

The hand unit and hand grips are each powered with two 18650 rechargeable batteries (batteries NOT included). When fully charged, the batteries in the hand grips last up to 2 days, while in the hand unit they last up to 10 hours.

Remote start/stop is possible by plugging a compatible Nucleus-M R/S cable into the open 7-pin port of a motor. This then gives you R/S capabilities through the hand unit and/or the handles.

Amazing value. Compared to other affordable focus systems out there, you get a lot for your money with this kit. I’m not sure why Tilta didn’t just offer a third motor version of this however that’s not a big deal. The build quality is solid from top to bottom. My only two issues are:1. Ease of setup: the whole menu system is very finicky but once you’ve set it up you (usually) good to go from there on. I’ve had the hand controllers lose their settings once during a shoot when I powered everything down to save battery life. When I turned everything back on, one of the motors wouldn’t respond to the hand grip controller until I reset it.2. The weight of the motors: this is one case where I’d prefer plastic over metal. The weight of these motors adds up. I had the DJI Focus system and used it on my Ronin MX paired with a DSLR. I never needed to use a counterweight with the gimbal when using the DJI motor. When using even just one Nucleus M motor, I need to use a small counterweight to balance my gimbal. If you’re using a heavier camera, this won’t be an issue for you. Obviously, the lens weight matters too. Just keep in mind that these motors are NOT lightweight.Overall, I’m extremely happy with this purchase!

If you are a professional film maker or videographer, and you are considering purchasing a $300 or $400 wireless follow focus unit, my professional advise to you would be to save your money and buy this unit. Here are the reasons why,1. Many of the less expensive units have motors that can be quite noisy, which can drastically affect your sound quality. This unit's motor is EXTREMELY quiet!2. It comes with TWO motors and there is an option to add a third. The two motors permit you to adjust focus and iris or focus and zoom. By adding the third motor, you'll have the option to control all three features of the lens.3. Not only does it come with the wireless focus wheel, but it also comes with two wireless handles. That's huge! This will allow you to add controls to a shoulder rig.4. The feel of the focus wheel when adjusting focus is fantastic! Plus you can set focal range and markers.5. The unit is VERY solid and well made and the wood grain on the focus wheel is a nice touch.I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase!

I currently use the Titla Nucleus-M Wireless Follow Focus/Lens Control System to control the focus and aperture on my BMPC 4k rig using Rokinon Cine lenses. This is an excellent system in terms of a high quality build, ease of use, and overall ability to pull focus using a reliable follow focus system. In order to get the best out of this system, you will need to purchase the recommended rechargeable batteries for the FIZ unit and wireless handles (BRC 18650 3000 mAh 3.7 V li-ion) as the kit comes with the recharging unit for the batteries. The motors do not have batteries but there are cables included that will allow for connection to your rig's power source. Also, there are many mounting options for the motors. If you are pulling focus wirelessly, then you will need to see how your adjustments are taking place using a monitor or viewfinder, which in my case is the video assist. When unboxing this system, it was immediately apparent that Tilta is about quality. Every component on the FIZ, the motors, and the wireless handles is built with quality materials. Turning the adjustment wheels has a nice feel with just the right amount of tension. Features like vibrating on the FIZ unit to let you know the stop points that you've set is just another cool feature. Minor con. Be careful as the strap that attaches to the FIZ unit will unexpectedly detach -- not sure if this is a minor defect with my unit but don't rely on this strap to hold this unit around your neck as my FIZ detached from the strap and dropped (fortunately, it dropped on carpet). This is a minor defect in my opinion but just beware.

This is the best affordable follow focus unit on the market today. It comes with two motors, and three different FIZ controllers. That's exceptional.I have been working with mine for over a month now and find the battery life on the hand units to be excellent. The motors power and daisy chain off of an included D-tap cable. I'm sure there's more to the unit's menus than I presently understand, but starting and calibrating the motors is simple enough and with lenses with hard stops, I've found the auto calibrate feature to work nearly perfectly.I have had some issues, the motors can get "confused" sometimes and you have to restart. That's to be expected in a $1200 follow focus unit, it's not an ARRI. But for an owner/operator the value is incredible and it opens up a great many possibilities.

I’m a professional cinematographer and I’ve used many different wireless follow focus systems over the years. For the price, the Nucleus-M system by Tilta can’t be beat. There’s only the slightest bit of latency, but nothing that you won’t find in even some of the top end systems. The build quality is fantastic, setup is very easy and the amount of control it gives you is phenomenal. I particularly love the hand grips and being able to dial in precise focus when shooting shoulder mount is fantastic! Can’t recommend it enough. Worth every penny.

The description says "ARRI rosette handle" but the thread was too thin to fit into the Camtree handle set. This may vary from product to product, but now I'm left short on a shoot when I needed this product.

10 years ago a wireless follow focus of this quality would have been over $10,000. The build quality is incredible and the features are amazing.
