I wouldn’t even give this one star. The splitter had been used before I received it. When I tried to use it, it wouldn’t work. The ratchet underneath wouldn’t catch. I requested a refund. Sent the package back by ups and no response. Don’t waste your money

This splitter is great for making kindling for starting fires in my wood stove. Does not work well for splitting whole logs. It excels at making kindling without the possibility of chopping a finger off. This is my second one, the one it replaced is over 10 years old. I use it every day to make kindling for starting fires in our wood stove. I keep it in the house, and I use it to make kindling for the fire on the floor in front of the stove. In fact, I've found that it works best if I kneel at the side of it and use my hands to operate it instead of operating it with my foot. My wife is a bit smaller than I am and she has to stand up and use her foot. The old one still works and will permanently go in the camp trailer for making campfires.

We had a FIREPLACE FRIEND and it was excellent. After 3 years the blade was dull so we elected to replace it with the Timber Tuff. I wish we hadn't. Next time I'll just hand sharpen the blade.Timber Tuff is poor quality. Broke after just 1 use. Returned and replaced. Had the same problem. Tried a 3rd time. Same problem. We even contacted the company and were told that this is a new product for Timber Tuff. They documented the issue for Engineering. They said theyd sent us a part to fix the problem when it was back in stock. We're still waiting. We used parts from our 3rd to fix our 2nd - Same problem. Amazon did refund us, but we still have no log splitter.

I love it. I had one years ago. I forgot it by wood pile when I sold my house. I was SOOOO HAPPY when I found it on Amazon. I am a full time RV'er and just turned 60. And because of Amazon, I am back to splitting my own fire wood.

Concept is simple - the ratchet head piece moves down the teeth on the center bar with each foot push. However, the piece that is supposed to grab and hold is of such soft metal that I broke it on the first pump of my foot and I can deform the metal with practically no effort. Waste of money.

If you just want to have something to make kindle or cut smaller firewood, this thing is awesome
