You receive two of these tire tread depth gauges, so I keep one in my shop and one in my car. I bought this for my motorcycle tires to identify when I needed to change them, but it works with any tire tread.Quite simple to use, just manually push the depth rod all out, then press the rod into the tire tread until the flat side flaps rest on the tire on either side of the tread. Then read the color-coded gauge on the handle to determine the remaining depth. Each tire has its own metric indicating when it is time to replace, but this gauge features a color code to alert you when the tire is worn and needs replacement.I docked this a star only due to the somewhat vague color indicator marking on the gauge. It works fine, but I would like to see more detailed scale on the indicator.Having said that, I feel strongly this is a good tool at this price point, and as I mentioned at first, you receive TWO gauges for this low price. Happy to own these!

Simple, easy to use, easy to read gauge. The three colors on the gauge make it fast to read. Pocket size.

Yeah, these work fine. I'm not sure they're any more accurate than the old penny test, but it's a second measurement. The hardest thing about using these is finding a way to locate them in a cluttered tool box. I solved that by keeping one of the gauges in the top left drawer of my dresser. Then I got a wood paint stirring stick about 12" long, and on that I wrote "Look in your top left drawer." Then I put the stick in my tool box.

It's a pretty simple tool. All you ask of it is it doesn't break and it's accurate. No problem. Accurate, and hasn't broken /yet/ :)
