I just got the time to test the Assembly today and it would not output a pulse when driven by a suitable signal. After fussing with it for a while I started measuring all the pins individually and when I put the probe on pin 8 the device came to life. Inspection under a microscope had already revealed a suspect solder joint and this one pin, which when left 'floating' will disable the device. That is why the SHDN is called 'shutdown' . Anyway, after re-soldering the pin, the device performed as expected and its characteristics seem at or close enough to satisfy me that the test board was worth the $20. The jumper was left on for my purposes.
