If you're like many cross-country skiers, you started off with an economy iron from Swix, Toko, or [misc. brands]. These are functional, and will work sufficiently for softer waxes or anything as cold as Blue. However, if you're working in any harder wax than that, you're probably going to waste a lot of wax, time, and energy trying to get it into your ski. This is because economy wax plates are thinner, lose their heat rapidly, and are difficult to gauge the temperature of. I spent the better part of 15 years getting by with this type of iron and, while it does technically "work", waxing often became a very tedious chore due to my iron's shortcomings.Enter the Toko T14 iron in this review: waxing is fun again. The difference between this iron and the standard entry-level Swix iron is immediately apparent. The #1 feature on this iron is the digital display that shows the current plate temperature and, when adjusted, the target temp. This allows you to accurately dial in the right temp for your wax, which is key to not wasting wax or burning your ski base. The second thing to note is how much better this plate holds its heat. When running the iron down the ski to melt in the wax, it barely loses any heat at all and you see a consistent melt from tip to tail. Additionally, the heat is very even across the entire plate. This differs from the economy irons which lose their heat quickly and typically have a plate surface which is hotter on one side or the other, causing a need to put more or less pressure on different sides of the iron and make more melt-in passes.TL;DR: If you are considering your first XC wax iron or an upgrade from an economy iron, this should be your first choice.

This Iron Works well, the temperature is very consistent and overall seems to be well made. It function just as I had expected. I had an issue with the thermostat on the iron after several months of consistent use, I contacted their customer service team and they had exchanged my unit and had me going again very quickly! Terrific service and very friendly. This is a great product and I would certainly buy another.

This is a great tool and produces a superior result.I can't explain the price. Maybe it's just something that doesn't sell in enough quantities to be affordable. Maybe it's the size of the metal base or the power of the heating element. But so what -- it's an awesome tool and I've been wasting a lot of time and doing a second-rate job by monkeying around with a clothes iron.Digital temperature is great. No guessing, no roasting your base!If you've bought expensive gear, this iron is worth it to keep the base in condition.

I had an old triangular shaped iron sold for waxing. It worked OK but the square edges did not go well over the solidified wax drops in the first pass. The new digital iron is way better. The shape is much more convenient to use when I have several skis side by side and the edges are rounded off to go over the bumps of the wax drops. The iron reaches its temperature very quickly and holds it steadily. I get no wax fumes at all now, yet the wax melts easily. Now waxing goes faster and is less of a chore.

Huge improvement over my old iron. Digital readout makes pairing the iron with the "iron temp" shown on Swix glide waxes very easy. Heavy iron holds heat well, and I can melt glide wax on with one slow pass of the iron (about 15 seconds). The wax melts, but the base of the ski feels only warm.

At this price point you’d expect the base to actually be flat. It can be fixed by sanding it yourself until it’s flat. But one should not have too at this price. Should be $80.

Worked great until it started overheating and smoking. Lasted a year. Not worth it.

This iron has the most features for your dollar that I could find out there. It warms up quickly and holds the heat steadily at the temp you dial in. The plate is thick and the grooves help slightly to keep it moving smoothly over your base. I got it for $129, but even at list price which I believe is $179 it is still worth it.

Excellent iron so far. Initially thought the temperature was too low when measuring the plate with an infrared laser thermometer. I contacted Toko and they quickly replied that that I should try it with a piece of paper on the iron surface as the IR does not measure correctly on a shiny surface. Correct they were. Easily melts hard blue wax on higher settings. Great to have the control of the temperature.

Heavy slug even heat anti-suction digital iron suitable for high temp topcoats on P-tex. Amazon's price is 2/3 OTC ski shop price and delivery was next day.

Very happy so far. Just used it once on 4 pairs of skis but it worked very well. No smoking and temperature held solid
