I know it's rude to ask for salt in some restaurants, but sometimes you just want a little more and there are no shakers in the fancier places, so I carry my own with me. I was excited to find these tiny glass spice containers because it will easily fit in my purse. I didn't like that the spoon was attached as I won't need that, but it was easy enough to use some needle nose pliers and remove the chain and spoon. I wish they had been sold individually because I didn't need 5 either, but it's nice to have backups in case one breaks, since it is glass. I can see where if you wanted to use these for a camping trip, then maybe you would take several spices with you, and then having 5 in one box would be useful.
