I haven’t tried the more expensive practice mutes but this one seems to work great to me. And the price is quite reasonable. I highly recommended it.

It's not a mute you would use for mute effect, but rather for blocking sound during practice. It does the job very well. One caveat is that the foam is of the type which will eventually dry out, but it can easily be replaced with cork if and when the time comes.

You'll read so many reviews of horn practice mutes from people who just don't like them horn practice mutes. The truth is a practice mute for horn isn't for everything. There isn't a mute yet that you can play with at super low volumes that feels identical to the open horn, so forget that. That being said, this is a great warmup and practice tool. I like to sit on the couch at night and watch TV with my wife, and with this mute I can sit and watch and play scales and etudes while I do that.This mute works great for what it is. It stays in the bell well. The sound is a little skewed, and the resistance is big, but it's no harm to your playing to use a mute like this as long as you are also spending time playing without it as well. In fact playing a passage with this mute, then a immediately playing without it has been beneficial to me.Would recommend for the value to price ratio. ðŸ‘ðŸ‘

I have a middle schooler starting out on trombone and we live in a duplex. They were not able to practice the technique to the fullest because they were always concerned with having to play quietly. This was a really good fix for that. Additionally we no longer have to move the dog to the far end of the house. That trombone gets him going, but all is fine now.

For the price, it’s a decent practice mute. It quiets my French horn playing enough so the neighbors don’t complain and the pitch is consistent in the middle register. In the low range, the mute makes it hard to center notes below G below the staff. High and especially low register extremes are not great, but at least it muffles the sound quite a bit.It’s pretty small, so it’s a little awkward to hold in the horn while playing, but it might stay by itself if you wedge it in.

I like that it’s lighter than another I bought.A downside is that when I have practiced for about an hour it falls out of the bell because the foam gets wet and I have to stop.
