These are not the modern sized Mini Timbales (timbalitos. They are the traditional sized @ 6" & 8" so they look and sound like bongos. The small (macho) drum is on the right stick side and the larger (Hembra) drum is on the left stick side. More modern timbalitos are approximately 10" for the Macho and 12" for the Hembra so they can be setup next to a standard 14" (Macho) and 15" (Hembra) timbale pair for the Tito Puente configuration. Also 10" & 12" size drums can actually sound like higher pitched timbales.I already own a set of chrome 14" & 15" tycoon timbales so I wanted a set of stick ready bongos for my timbale set up except in a left to right Hembra then Macho configuration with cascara capable shells.This is exactly what these are; reverse direction cascara bongos that can connect to my current timbale setup and be played safely with sticks. You can set them up right to left if you want.You get; one 6" drum, one 8" drum, and one tuning wrench. You do not get a mounting system as shown in the picture, but each drum does have an attached bracket that will allow it to be attached to a timbale stand's center cowbell-jam block post. The brackets are designed so if you mount the 8" Hembra first followed by the 6" macho above. The horizontal drum rim angle will line up evenly.The following statement in the product description: "Easily mountable on to any percussion or drum kit set up" is 100% false unless you have one or two spare ball joint to small (cowbell sized) L rod connector mounts open on your drum set.They are like mounting two cowbells or jam blocks.If you own tycoon timbales with a long front post. You can fit both drums over your existing cowbell and jam block, but the drums will not tilt-angle etc.The Tycoon Percussion 6 Inch & 8 Inch Chrome Shell Mini Timbales happen to be perfect for my needs.They do have an excellent cascara sound, but the shallow shells and the way too long lug bolt lengths can get in the way of cascara work.These bongo-timbalitos (mini timbales) make a great sounding pair of reverse direction bongos for use with sticks as long as you can get them mounted.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"The smaller timbalitos were developed in 1924 as a response to Cuba's dictator Gerardo Machado's banning of the bongó in bands which played son. It seems Machado was tired of hearing singers in these small groups making fun of him with double meaning lyrics.
