Just drill guide holes, put in the dry wall anchors, and then screw the mounts into the anchors; The mount has a screw on the side to tighten against the rod so that the rod doesn't slide around.

I needed smaller rod holders for a project using 1-inch pipe. Most holders available were designed to fit 1.5-inch rods, so they were way too large. These work well for that.I don't know for certain that the holders are really made of stainless steel. However, a magnet won't stick to them, so that's a reasonable indication they are. Beyond that, they seem pretty sturdy and well made.The screws supplied are basically throwaways - they're too soft, too short, too small, and weak is a sick puppy. Funny, my exe's used to make the same complaint! They are so inadequate that they can just barely support the weight of the rod holders. Add the weight of a steel rod and whatever might be hung on it, and they would certainly pull out. Yes, they're intended to use with the hollow wall anchors provided, but that is not compatible with my application. As a result, I had to make a special trip to my local hardware store and spend more money on decent replacement screws.Considering the low quality screws and the cost to replace them, this item gets only two stars.
