With this diagonal you can match the orientation of the star field with "correct" star maps and charts. My telescope had a 45 angle attachment on it which meant the eye piece was pointing downward. With this 90 angle I can view the sky from a seated position.

I got a really cheap telescope a few months ago. The diagonal attachment included with that one was horrible. This is a huge improvement. I can see what the telescope is pointing at, there's no major distortions or occlusions. As far as I can tell it doesn't change the brightness of what I'm seeing.
