A few years ago, we were in the middle of a big power outage as a result of a rare snow/ice storm in my area. That was my first year as a "tortoise Mom" and I did not know what to do to provide warmer temps for my tortoise. He was small enough at that time I could keep him warm, however, I wondered what to do once he got bigger. I purchased these to put in my emergency kit for my animals and have used them when I travel with him to provide a heat source while on the road. They hold their heat and while they are not hot - it does help keep his area temporarily warm. These last much longer than hand warmers.

I sell plants on eBay and Etsy, these heat packs really do the trick in colder months. Customers like them too. The only thing I don't care for is the weight it adds to the package. Costs more to ship but also can damage plants if the pack isn't secured [taped] well to bottom of box. I wrap in brown bag, then tape to bottom of box. This has worked very nicely for me.

These are wonderful for shipping my plants in the winter! The only kind I'll use or trust! Fast shipping and wonderful value!

Eggs safe from the south to northern illinois. Cold front. -10 to 5 degree weather. Shipping took 2 days. The heat packs were warm when I opened the package. No eggs froze.

I recently started an Etsy shop to help make ends meet (after a layoff), selling a few plants from my collection. After many Google deep-dives and before pressing 'go,' I had a list of items to ensure my plants safely made it to their new homes. After reading the product instructions, I knew the heat packs would need at least 45 minutes of open air to heat up, and I made sure to plan for this. I finally made my first sale on Etsy and was THRILLED! Unfortunately, my first customer received a frostbitten plant despite a 2-day shipping period. I returned to the product instructions to ensure I read them correctly and had my second-ever order come in that day. I used a larger box and ensured the heat pack was opened at least an hour and a half before boxing it up. Bam, same problem again! I shipped out on a Monday morning, and it arrived before 3p the next day. Faced with paying for replacements out of pocket, I opened the third heat pack today to test it out. After peeling the sticker back on one side, I left it on my desk and returned after 2 hours - no temperature difference. Three hours- no difference. I even waited 4 hours to give it the benefit of the doubt, but it was still room temp, not even lukewarm. Please take caution when purchasing these heat packs (which aren't exactly cheap), and take a second look at another shop. For some reason, Amazon's policy doesn't even allow for a refund since this was a third party.

I've shipped 3 of the 5 packs out with plants. Shipping the plants off took nearly a day longer than the 72-hour length of the pack due to a snowstorm, but the packs were still warm and the plants were well protected. I should note that I used 3 in a box that I probably should have added 1 more to be safe, but with plenty of packing or for whatever reason, it worked great! I'd buy these again and probably will soon! Excellent product!
