1. Turn off the power! Take photos to document the wiring setup of the original control board, then remove it.

On time delivery. One of our heat pumps (we have two) defrost board failed, keeping unit from defrosting. This is common on Goodman heat pumps. Both heat pumps use the same defrost board. Ordered a this second to have on hand. in case of failure of the other board. No waiting for an EXPENSIVE HVAC service tech service call, plus board from dealer is over twice this price. I'm a belt and suspenders type guy, keeping spare common failure items on hand. For heat pumps, this includes capacitor, fuses for disconnect, and defrost board. Following a YouTube video, replacement is easy. Turn power off, short out capacitor, remove board with wires attached. Then install new board (two screws). and transfer wires one at the time from old board, so you get everything back as originally installed. Take a picture of old board before removing. By installing it myself, I figure I saved a couple hundred bucks-MY MONEY!

These boards die in goodman heat pumps. Super easy to replace - just be sure you not only cut the outside power (240), but also the inside power, which feeds the 24 volts to the outside unit. And get a few of these, to have on stand by.
