This tailgate pad was perfect for my needs (9' surfboard in a short bed), the buckles are metal and are protected by a rubber cover to prevent them from scratching your tailgate's paint. The will hold securely. However, do install it so that the buckles are on the inside of tailgate, not the outside.

I'm happy with this product thus far. Super easy to set up, looks very sturdy. The straps all cinch up via clamps that seem well made and sturdy. I just used it for the first time and it did a great job holding my 11' paddleboard in my truck's 6-ft bed. I drove at 65 mph on the interstate, and over some bumps on the road to my launch point, and it held the paddleboard rock-steady. Other reviewers have said the inner padding is a weak point. I can't say one way or the other, but see that the padding can easily be removed and replaced, as it's in a zippered compartment. So far so good!

Works great! I purchased two for my tailgate each board fits perfect and is secure. Easy to put on and remove.

My 11’6†paddle board seems to be secure in the back of my 6ft bed Tacoma. Easy to put on and take off. Curious to see how secure the strap is with 2 boards.

I use a bit differently… with tailgate down and pad facing up. The pad straps securely to the tail gate and the straps will go around two kayaks and hold them tight. Probably don’t really need to tie the kayaks at the front of the bed but do so out of abundance of caution. Very pleased with this reasonably priced and high quality pad. At my age, much easier than lifting on racks.

Excellent quality, really glad I bought this instead of a different brand. All 3 straps are nice and thick with a rubber protector covering each friction buckle. I have successfully carried 2x 10.5’ paddle boards with my 5’7†truck bed with no issues
