The Vater brand was officially established in November of 1991, but the Vater family history with drumsticks started decades earlier, in the basement of Boston's legendary Jack's Drum Shop. There, Alan and Ron's grandfather Jack Adams, hand turned drumsticks for the drummers like Buddy Rich as early as 1956. In the early to mid 1980's, the Vater brothers began producing private-label drumsticks alongside sticks for Vic Firth and Zildjian. A few years of this led to the brothers deciding to move their business to a new factory in Holbrook MA. Over the past decade, the Vater family and product line has expanded greatly, introducing innovative products such as the Splash Stick and Acoustic, and welcoming renowned drummers like Chad Smith, Stewart Copeland, and Josh Freeze. At Vater, our goal is simple. . . to produce the very best drumsticks and percussion accessories in the world.

The concept is pretty good, but the stick portion needs to be longer. There’s absolutely no way you’re getting a clean, decent sounding double bounce out of the stick. The brush sounds like your typical wire brush and is great for that purpose. If you try using the stick end, it’s just too short to make any drum sound good.

Great for soft jazz with light cymbal rides

A versatile pair of brushes, which I use often with a jazz trio. Two downsides. First, for me, the angle the wires display is too wide. A narrower spread would be better. Second, the stick end is too short, leaving a lack of good balance. I’ve thought of having the company make up a pair with an eight to 10” stick, with the brushe 1 to 2” shorter and a narrower spread.

It can't be used properly as a stick at all. It is too short to work as a stick and the brush side is not very "strong", it does not last long, if you play many strokes with the brush.

These brush sticks are great! I play a hybrid set using a real snare and all electronic for toms, cymbals, etc. I hold the sticks with an inverted traditional grip, in both hands, and can seamlessly switch between stick (for all the pads/triggers) and brush (for the snare). Overall, Vater makes the finest drumsticks on the market and the only brand I play.

The Brush part is cool, but they don't retract. The drum sticks are very crappy. No diddles can be done with them. You would have to be buddy rich to make these sound good.

Bad quality wood on the stick and terrible sound quality on drum heads and cymbals. The wire is very flimsy and has no attack or volume. This product is un-useable.

Quite hard to keep a hold of & one fell to bits the 3rd time I used it. Waste of money
