This upholstery hammer is advertised to have a magnetic head to hold tacks. The magnet is not strong enough to pick up tacks and hold them in place. A good magnet is very important when using small upholstery tacks. I would not recommend this hammer for serious upholstery work.

I purchased this hammer to hold small tacks to put quilts in a quilting frame. The magnet is so weak that it will not hold the tacks. Other than that, the hammer is well made for its size

I bought the Vaughan SBP5 Professional Magnetic Tack Hammer from Home Depot in 2010 for $8.93. I wanted a tack hammer with a "nylon tip", but I refused to pay $30.00 dollars. So I bought the Vaughan and attached a self adhesive felt pad to the head.It's a hammer--it works--what more can I say.

Tack Hammer head in not magnetic. Tested on 3 different surfaces including refrigerator with magnetic stick-ons all over it.Otherwise is as advertised. Received it today August 3, 2018. Made in China of course.

This is very good when tacking canvas or leather to a wood frame. When one hand is busy with stretching material and the other hand is holding the hammer, the magnetic end of the hammer is almost like having a third hand to hold the tack. The idea is to just start the tack with the magnetic end and finish driving it with the regular end of the hammer head. This is a high quality tool and should last many years.

Nice hammer for fixing upholstery and hanging pictures. Better than using a claw hammer for light usage.

Misshapen head and bad balance in the handle. I would not buy Vaughan tools again, based on the quality of this hammer.
