For anything made in Japan that you think has Phillips head screws, you're probably wrong. The Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) is slightly different from Phillips. With JIS screws, these will have a much more secure bight and will be less likely to slip and damage a screw head. If you have a Japanese car and/or a quality bicycle with Japanese components, these are a must. The Vessel screwdrivers are well made and very sturdy.

Best screwdriver I've ever owned - and that's coming from a mechanic who owns a lot of screwdrivers. The JIS size tip is what everything should be. It fits all normal American screws that I found to be number two, but does it without trying to strip the screw. Absolutely fantastic product and great hand feel as well! I had to buy more than one because I was so happy with it.

I'm a tool snob. I'm not particularly handy (I can hold my own), and I don't work with my hands for a living, but I love well made (read expensive) tools. My tool brand of choice is PB Swiss, which to the unfamiliar is a Swiss brand who make probably some of the best screwdrivers available. In actuality, they make some of the best "insert tool from their catalog here" tools in most any bracket they choose to compete in.This Vessel is in my opinion, a very high quality screwdriver and gives no shame to the PB Swiss. In some tasks, its better, because it has the JIS tip. My primary use for the Vessels are for my bicycles, which have JIS screws in them. The grip shape on these don't seem revolutionary, but they are comfortable and well executed. The rubbery grib material is very nice and my second favorite to the PB Swiss Swip grip (which is a similar santoprene rubbery/textured grip). The tips are cut extremely well and the knurling on the shaft is just aggressive enough but not "tear your hands apart" aggressive.I wasn't exactly sure if I wanted to invest in Vessel, I love the PB Swiss quality but the JIS tips sold me on trying one for that specific task. I'll be buying more Vessels for sure, All of the Megadora's at a minimum, and maybe even a couple ball grips/tang through's. I would go so far to say, if I were to create a "value for the dollar" set of screwdrivers, my vote would have to go to Vessel, they are a great screwdriver at a great price.Other brands I own or have tried in my home are Wera Chiseldriver, Wright (classic red cellulose handles), and Beta Grip. The only screwdrivers I didn't think I would pay asking price for were the Beta's.

The Phillips screw is ubiquitous. It was patented in the 1930's and used to be exotic stuff. Once upon a time, users had to pay a royalty to use them. Cadillac started using Phillips screws in the late 1930's, and was considered cutting edge for it. Of course the complaint from mechanics back then was that they had to purchase "exotic special drivers for these screws from Mr. Phillips!" :-)In the intervening years, we had massive industrial growth, spurred in large part by a world war. Phillips started showing up everywhere. Meanwhile, and as a side effect of that war, we destroyed most of industrial Japan with firebombing (1944-45). The offshoot of this wholly unpleasant experience was that the Japanese were in a good position to restart their industries and to reconsider a whole lot of stuff. One thing the Japanese "reconsidered" was the Phillips screw. They were already not regulated by Phillip's patent, since it was a US Patent, and who in Japan would ever need a screw anyway, right? :-)Meanwhile, after careful and very inscrutibly Japanese introspection, their engineers realized that with slight adjustments of the tip dimensions, the concept of Phillips' "cross type" screw could be improved. Imagine that! So, left to their own devices, the Japanese did that redesign and came up with their very own industrial standard. That was then called the "Japanese Industrial Standard" for cross screw, aka "JIS".Guess what? They were right. Which leads to this product review. This Megadora manufactured JIS standard driver outperforms Phillips designs in every measurable way, just as most JIS drivers do. JIS is so good that it WORKS better in Phillips profiles than does a typical Phillips screwdriver! And, when used in true JIS fasteners (the ones with that little dimple on the screw face) they are the only way to go to get out any JIS standard screw that is even close to tight. Need to work on that vintage Japanese motorcycle? Every screw is JIS. How about that 1970's Pioneer home stereo? Again, EVERY cross screw is JIS.Besides out-Phillips-ing a Phillips driver, a mere TWO sizes of JIS drivers cover about 95% of every screw you're likely to encounter on average applications. Best of all, Megadora JIS drivers don't cam out, disfigure the fastener, and generally make you cuss like those crappy #2 Phillips you've been unknowingly fighting with all these years.Do yourself a favor - ESPECIALLY IF YOU WORK ON MOTORCYCLES OR JAPANESE BUILT STEREO EQUIPMENT. Order yourself up a nice set of Megadora JIS drivers. Get +1 and +2 sizes, and go ahead and splurge and get them in several lengths. You will be done buying screwdrivers for cross-screw functions, probably for the rest of your life.Just don't loan them to your buddies. They'll never come back.HIGHLY recommended - 6 stars. :-)

This item was specifically purchased for bike components made in Japan (Shimano/Suntour). I bought into the idea that the derailleur screws were different than other Phillips head screws. I'm still not sure if I think there is that much of a difference to warrant a different screw driver, but I am happy I found this tool company and screwdriver. It's my go-to driver. Comfortable, solid feel, and after years of use, it is still going strong.

If you're doing any work that involves inserting or removing phillips head screws, get this driver. Seats well in the head and does not slip.

I’m glad I bought this screwdriver. It is very nice and much needed to work on Honda carburetors. JIS is much needed! No more stripping Phillips head screws. I wish I had know about this sooner

This screwdriver has a very good solid tip on it, and I haven't stripped out any screws with it or rounded off any. This is my first screwdriver that I reach for when I need to use one. I would recommend it. It's a solid inexpensive purchase that you can rely on.

If you ever work on Japaneese powersports, vehicles or power equipment you need this screw driver. This thing saves so many head aches with stripped out "Philips" head screws, save your screws and don't need to buy new ones with this driver, it fits perfectly in anyone tools box and will definitely always have a spot in mine. Super valuable tool for the cost. Most likely will buy a couple extras in yhe near feature.

... absolut unabdingbar.
