This Vestil PAIL-PAL pail opener is suitable for removing and replacing lids on 5-gal. steel or plastic pails. It has a cutter on one end for use with plastic lids, and an end hook on the other for use with steel lids. This pail opener can be used with non-UN-rated plastic and steel pails.

Nice tool to have. We bought more as everyone wanted to keep one at their workstation. Opens metal or plastic. Closes both. Nice weight so you can hammer ect. Well made. Heavy duty.

If you need it, just go ahead and get it. It worked like a charm getting the lids off of 5 gallon, metal buckets of deck stain so I could take them for recycling. Don’t be stubborn like I was and and try prying off the lids with a screwdriver first. Spend the money on the Vestil PAIL-PAL and save yourself from the spike in cortisol levels from trying to “make do†with something else. Get the right tool for the job.

I've used the cheap plastic 5 gallon pail openers for a few years only to have them break all the time. The Vestil Pail-Pal is hands down the best tool I've ever used to remove 5 gallon bucket lids that have been almost vulcanized on. And it won't break. The only complaint is that mine has a casting flaw that looks unsightly on one side but this does not affect performance. This tool should last a lifetime for what I'm doing.

This product would probably work great on lids with notches, but did not work at all on our solid lid on 5 gallon resin pails

I had used this same tool several times before purchasing my own so I was already confident in the product. I am opening buckets constantly at work so this was necessary in order to avoid the strain of using just my hands for it. Not only is it easier with this but much faster too. I looked at some similar tools but not many appeared to be multifunctional and I don't trust the plastic ones to last for me.

Other reviews said it was poor quality... Mine is OK I sharpened the part that cuts the plastic and it works like it should.
