I got this pail for a very specific job and it did that job wonderfully. There was a large boulder in my lawn that I was having to use a jackhammer to break up and remove. While the primary destination for the shattered rock fragments were a utility cart, the more of the rock I removed and the deeper the hole I dug, the greater the need arose to have an intermediary place to put the rocks and dirty in to get them to the cart. A shovel wasn't an option. Nor was any trowels or scoops. But, I had a perfect spot in the hole for this pail. I didn't baby it at all and was pleased at how few dings or dents I wound up with. It was durable and able to handle a lot of rock fragments at one time. It was a big timesaver and also a backsaver since I could lift more at a time and therefore lift less often. While a durable plastic pail may have done just as well, I just felt more confident that steel was a better guarantee. And, I was no disappointed. Now, one thing I did notice afterwards (days and weeks later) was that, despite how thoroughly we cleaned out and dried off the pail, there was spots of rust forming around the bottom. It was stored inside and away from any direct rain but the level of moisture in the air still seemed to be enough to affect it. The description does say there is a rust inhibitor lining but, it also clearly states this is meant to be used for oil based or solvent based materials. I obviously used it in a very different way that easily could have damaged any invisible protective coating it had. That's why, after some debating, I decided to still give it 5 stars instead of just 4. I acknowledge that my chosen use of the pail invalidated any warranty that might have existed and it still wound up in much better shape than expected. I just might pick up a can of spray-on bed liner and see how that works with it.

We have a fireplace and use this bucket to scoop out the ashes and coals. It works great and the heat doesn't seem to affect it in any way. We also set the bucket outside in between cleanings and the rain hasn't seemed to affect it either. There is no visible rust after months of use.

After removing some stickers with alcohol this is a very nice looking bucket. Mine will go into service holding canes and umbrellas. Being all metal it has a rustic look that plastic can’t have.

The bucket came in two boxes with minimal brown paper padding in the larger box. The smaller box was devoid of protection and none of the paper padding was placed on the bottom or tops of either box. So when the bucket arrived, it was badly dented on both sides and has some visible damage to the rim either from shoddy construction or shipping. This is a fairly thin bucket and isn't made well. It features a stripe on one side, presumably from where it was welded that doesn't match the rest of the piece. The attachment points for the handle aren't flush with the sides of the pail. The handle doesn't revolve properly and gets stuck at points. It also makes an annoying clacking sound as it moves.Save yourself the trouble and just get a plastic one from Home Depot or Lowes. They're cheaper, more durable, convenient, and quieter.

I have this mounted on top of a Bosch dust extractor along with a Dustopper. The Bosch was too powerful for a plastic bucket; the bucket kept collapsing under high vacuum conditions. I even doubled them up to no avail. So far this bucket has held up to the dust extractor.I read some reviews here that complained about rust, so I painted the bare area around the seam on the outside and applied a liberal coat of paste wax to the inside.

I really liked this product because I was looking for an inexpensive 5 gallon bucket for mixing drywall mud. The Lowes and HD buckets always leave blue or orange bits of plastic when the mixer scrapes the sides. I ordered this and the lid, which was separate. I wish they had a combo for them, one reason for 4 stars. The other reason I did 4 stars not five was the metal is very susceptible to oxidation/rust. I made the mistake of leaving mud in it for 4 days and the sides rusted on the inside, even with the lid on and sealed. I ordered a second one and i just make sure to rinse and dry it out daily after use.

Used it to collect drippings from grain basket while brewing beer. Needed a strudy pail to hang ~10 lbs of grain. After cleaning, pail weld seam was full of rust and rust marks all along the inside. Weld points for handle holder also had rust on them.Went to return, found this product has a no return policy.
