Tested this with a VCR and a number of tapes, both personal and professional. Audio and video output appear to be good. It did in a few place struggle with personal tapes where the recording quality was particularly bad. In those situations the audio came through, but sometimes the video would blank. Trying it on professional mass market VCR tapes though that were in decent shape, I saw no problems.I did have some struggles with both VLC and with OBS, but those were issues with the software and not this device. I was using a Win11 machine to test this. I didn't need to install any drivers - just plugged it all up and went to work. There is little in the way of instructions and the parts that come are just as shown in the listing pictures. There is a USB-c jack for providing power in that is not needed if the main USB connection can provide sufficient power. There's a USB-A port as well that is poorly described - I think it is for passthrough to the compute on other USB devices like keyboard/mouse/etc. I have no such need and didn't attempt to use it. HDMI output at 1080p looked good. The real struggle with this will likely be whatever software package you use and not the device. With VLC I was able to make a decent recording, but the output it showed during the recording frequently had pauses in both video and audio - I didn't see any such pauses in the recorded video though. With OBS, there was no pauses and everything looked fine, except I couldn't get it to scale it up to fit the canvas size, so the recorded video, showed a mostly black screen with a small window in the upper left having the actual video I was recording - that's not the fault of the device though.

This is the solution my family has been looking for! No one wants to keep a bunch of old VHS tapes from their kids' dance recitals, but we don't want to loose those precious 2-3 minute routines, either! Some family keep sakes we have sent away to be digitized and it did work, but it's expensive, doesn't allow you to pick and choose, and it's anxiety inducing sending your memories away in the mail! This keeps everything safe at home with you and gives you the power to digitize and cut/paste/save your own files. None of us are particularly tech savvy at my place, but we were able to make the initial connection from VHS to laptop right out of the box. We need to come at it fresh to really start the process of copying and organizing, but with this tool it is definitely doable! No more sending our memories away to strangers! If you would prefer to do it yourself, this makes it possible!

I recently ordered this 2-in-1 AV converter, and it is a welcome addition to my tech setup! It gives me the ability to digitize old VHS tapes and convert RCA to HDMI simultaneously. It is perfect for archiving family memories and enjoying retro gaming on modern 75-inch smart TV displays, something you could never have done back in the day. The USB-A and USB-C dual inputs make it versatile, working seamlessly with both my old PCs and my MacBooks. What I appreciate the most is the HDMI live preview feature, which lets me watch my analog content on my TV WHILE digitizing it! The bundled software is user-friendly and supports batch conversion, clip editing, and direct uploads to social media. Whether you are looking to preserve precious memories or revive old gaming consoles and systems, this converter is retro gold for any tech enthusiast! Thanks, AMAZON!Mark in North Carolina

I have tons of family memories on VHS tapes and HI8. This unit allowed me to convert them to digital format and preserve them. It is also much easier to share them with family members in digital format since most people no longer use VHS. I already had some video editing software on my pc that worked just fine, so, I did not try theirs. Connecting to pc was easy and I didn't need to find any drivers on my Windows 11 pc. I also use this to display our older analog game consoles via HDMI to external monitors or HDTV. All in all a really nice unit that has multiple uses. I highly recommend this product and give it 5 stars.

So far, so good. I needed this adapter to be able to play some old video tapes from my VCR to a modern monitor. Everything I needed was included, and it was simple "plug-and-play". The quality was fine, though watching an old low-rez VCR tape can be painful. It's probably just as good as it was originally. P

This product easily converted my old 8 and super 8 tapes to a USB drive to which I then backed up to an external hard drive via my desktop. You can also just download directly to your laptop/desktop if you chose. It was easy to set up use and you can walk away while the tapes are converting and come back after they are done.
