After comparing a lot of different products and reading a lot of reviews went with this air compressor for my tires. I am a stickler for keeping the tires on my vehicles at their recommended pressures, especially my motorcycle tires!! I wanted a compressor that was fast and could handle up to 55 psi (tires on my camper van). I also wanted a compressor of good quality that would last. I have 2 old junk compressors that are useless.I had 2 concerns purchasing this compressor. First, I did not think I would like the screw on tire chuck, especially for my motorcycle tires where the valve stems are more difficult to get at and in fact I purchased an angled chuck for that anticipated problem. Well, the angled chuck I bought was unnecessary. This screw on chuck is easier, works better and is more secure than the typical clamp type chuck. My next concern was that the unit is powered by an auto 12 v aux outlet requiring a minimum of 15 amps/180 volts. I was not able to figure out how many amps and volts go to my aux outlet and figured that an a/c plug in unit would have more power. Bottom line....no problem. Have used the unit plugged in to 2 different vehicles w engine on and have not blown any fuses. I think just about any modern vehicle would be able to handle the power reqmts. If I had found a good, low cost ac model I would have gone with that. I put air in the tires at home in my garage 95%, portability was not a reqmt. Anyway this one is very portable.PROS:1. Well built quality unit, not a piece of junk that won't last.2. Inflates tires fast and is not excessively loud and can inflate up to 60 psi.3. Built in pressure gauge surprisingly accurate....reads 3-5 psi high...in the ballpark (to get accurate reading of gauge switch power off. I overinflate about 5 psi and then use a more accurate gauge to bleed air to accurate pressures).4. I'm sold on the screw on chuck.5. Comes with a carrying case (cheap and small).....bonus!!CONS:1. 12 v plug is too short. Barely able to fill right rear camper van tire plugged in to dash aux outlet. (So....that's why they offer a 12' extension package for $8 more....)2. Running the car while using the compressor is more annoying that if the car was not running....to me.Best air compressor I've ever owned. IMPORTANT: You MUST have the car running for this compressor to get enough power and not drain your battery. I believe this is true of all portable 12v compressors, so if your not getting enough power to your compressor, definitely start the engine and run the vehicle while using it.

I always keep a pump in my car for an emergency. I've gone through a couple of cheap pumps. They are worth what I paid, and break after a few years. They are 'good enough' in that they pump but they are slow and overheat quickly. This is a great product. It's metal, well built, and works very well. It feels solid and is relatively quiet for what it is. It is VERY fast and doesn't overheat.Viair makes many pumps but this is a great simple pump to have in your car or garage. It is well worth the cost and I'll probably save money in the long run not having to replace a cheaper pump.I highly reccomend.

Vibrates a bit when operating (rubber feet keep it from bouncing around on the ground, though), doesn’t have a deflation feature (correction, the screw-on chuck version at least does have a deflation function: unscrew the chuck a little bit and the tire will deflate and the gauge will still read the pressure), and the display is the wrong way around.Otherwise it’s excellent for my needs. It’s quiet. The auto off works well and seems accurate. It fills my admittedly small 205/55R16 tires at about 1 psi every couple seconds when topping off. It’s compact and lightweight. The cord and hose are more than long enough without being excessively long. The controls are dead simple. It remembers the pressure setting when turned off. And it seems durable, but time will have to tell on that one (after a couple months use: so far so good). The carrying case seems high quality as well.

I recently picked up Viair 85P and it's turned out to be a little gem for my car. It's pretty simple to use, which I appreciate. Just plug it into the cigarette lighter, attach the twist chuck to your tire, and you're good to go. I was surprised by how fast it inflates tires – definitely beats waiting for roadside assistance or searching for a gas station with a working air pump. It's got a decent length cord too, so reaching the tires isn't a hassle. The compressor isn't too loud, and the gauge on it seems accurate, which is a relief because I'm never quite sure with these things. It feels sturdy, not like it's going to fall apart after a few uses, and it’s small enough to keep in the trunk without taking up much space. I’ve used it on my SUV and my husband's truck, and it worked like a charm for both. It's not perfect though. If you’re doing more than one tire, you might have to give it a break to cool down, as it's not meant for heavy-duty, continuous use. That’s not a huge deal for me, but something to keep in mind if you think you'll need it for more intensive tasks. Overall, I'd say the Viair 85P is a great buy for the average driver. It’s convenient, reliable, and gives you a bit of extra peace of mind when you're out on the road.

Good build quality, it doesn't rattle if you place it on the ground, the cable is long enough to reach all four wheels without problems. It inflates very quickly just make sure you car's power outlet meets the specifications, if not, then you can always get an adapter that you connect directly to the battery. I got an adapter just to be sure and it works great.

My car came with an emergency air compressor, but I wanted something to use when checking my tires on a regular basis. After reading some reviews, I bought this. This compressor is smaller than I thought it would be, and operates much faster and quieter than the emergency unit that came with the car. In addition, it also boasts a LED which is very useful when connecting the hose to the tire in unlit areas. The instruction indicates to use this compressor while the car is running so as not to blow a fuse, which is something to note. I really wish it drew less power so I could use it without the car running, but it does fill up the tires pretty fast when just topping up so it's not too bad. I considered getting some adaptors so I can connect directly to the car's battery, but it's a bit of a hassle to pop the hood, remove all the plastic surrounding the battery, then undoing all that. The power cord that connects to your 12v outlet is long, but my car is tiny and large vehicles probably want to check to make sure the cord is long enough. There's also another attachment that can be used to fill basketballs and such.Only used it several times at home and at autocross and so far it's great for such occasional use.

I was very excited to get this hoping that my tire inflating woes were finally coming to an end. Things started off encouragingly when it took a little more than 3 minutes to inflate the first tire from 18PSI to 36PSI. But soon thereafter it the fuse. The next day I replaced the fuse and tried again, it longer to inflate and the fuse blew up sooner than before. The trend continued for a third time and I'd had enough. This pump would be better off with crocodile clamps so that it could directly draw power from the battery. It doesn't seem to share a durable relationship with power outlets of all cars. Have requested a return from Amazon.

I am writing this review after 6 years of use. It’s an excellent product. Looks very aesthetic and also performs well. After six years of use the pushback pin on the power plug became loose and lost. Difficult to get a spare in market. No contact available for customer service. Have asked for support in the FAQ. Hopefully I will get the support.
