Is this a good lens, Yes. Is it worth the price, Yes. I also think it is a great alternative to the 56mm/1.2 if that lens is out of your budget.Pros:This lens is only $330 dollars USDIt is relatively light weightFast aperture at 1.4Great low lightingSnappy Auto FocusBOKEH!Cons:Chromatic AberrationI actually had a good time with this lens. For a while I wanted the 56mm/1.2 but avoid keeping it after the price. It is also relativity slow (although that lens is beautiful). Here comes the Viltrox 56/1.4. Honestly, I was a bit hesitant as I never tried this brand before. As soon as I took my first picture, I was immediately impressed. The auto focus is very snappy, no lag or hesitation. Pairing it with my Xt3 (without the latest firmware on both camera and lens) I was blown away with the speed. I was able to track people on skate boards and oncoming cars with no issues using the AF-C mode. Using AF-S snaps even faster. Taking 100 photos on a walk downtown I hit about 98% of my targets - only have about maybe 3 at most that I personally may have missed focus with. I have attached some unedited pictures above so you can see how the images look out of camera.Skin tones renders pretty good actually, sharpness is spot on, and the colors look pretty good. My only complaint is the Chromatic Aberration. While it can be adjusted in post, it can be pretty strong in some cases. The only reason why I am not taking anything away (rating wise) from it is because: The Price and software adjustments to fix CA.In the end - I can genuinely recommend the 56mm/1.4 from viltrox especially if you are unable to afford the Fuji version. I think this lens will be used primarily when I just do not have enough space for my 90mm and want more compression than the 35mm. THIS would be the perfect solution.PS - I LOVE THE BOKEH!I recommend.

OVERVIEW:FAST - SOLID - SHARP - LIGHTI received this lens with super fast shipping speeds, as soon as I opened the box I was impressed by the build quality I had watched and read a lot of reviews before buying it, but still wasn't prepared for how solid and premium it felt to hold, it has a reassuring weight to it, which is what I've come to about the Fuji lenses, it feels solid and doesn't have any worrying shakes or rattles like some other budget lenses. I immediately plugged it into my mac and updated it without any issues the process with straightforward and easy. After spending a day with it I was very impressed with the autofocus speed it's comparable to my fuji f2 line lenses, quiet and quick with hardly noticeable motor noises. The lens hood is very large which can be annoying to carry around since it doesn't mount backwards on the lens for storage. Wide-open at f1.4 it's surprisingly sharp but gets sharper as you stop down to f4, I very much enjoyed using around the city since its light and the black blends into the camera body which is great for street and architecture work and I've attached some images shot with the lens above. overall the lens is a joy to use and I haven't had any quibbles, I'm super glad I bought it and I'm looking forward to using it on my next portrait session.

My first Viltrox. Such a great lens! I film a lot, paired with the X-S10, the focus is quiet and blazing fast. Very sharp when wide open. Bokeh! I have the Fujifilm XF 35mm f1.4, excellent lens by the way but very noisy when focusing. I wanted longer reach like the XF 56mm f1.2 or the XF 50mm f1.0, decided to go with Viltrox 56 because of the price, fast focus, quiet, light, and other good things based on my research. Also all metal good quality build, and metal lens hood!No regrets! Get this lens.

In Fuji land there are quite a few lenses that cover the 50mm-ish range, but if you are looking for a wide aperture prime, you basically have this lens, the 50mm f/2, the 56mm f/1.2 WR or the 50mm f/1.0 ($400-$1,500). I wouldn't bother with Sigma personally, because there are no aperture rings. I also skipped the f/2 because I think the Viltrox beats it at f/2, and has that extra stop. I have the new 56mm f/1.2 WR, so let's compare this $300 lens to the $1,000 lens. I have to say, after buying the newer Fuji, I am not all that motivated to sell the Viltrox - I like the lens that much. The Viltrox is smaller, lighter, and other than the "click-less" aperture ring (no feedback), I like the ergonomics better. It has the same nice metal feel, and I don't bump the aperture/focus ring by accident as is the case with the new Fuji, which has almost no spacing between the two. It has almost silent, smoking fast autofocus, which makes it a better "action" 56mm than the Fuji. The new Fuji is fast too, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure it is actually faster than the Viltrox.Optically, the new Fuji is better corrected, with superior sharpness and contrast, and colors seems to pop more. Bokeh is also superior, but not by a TON. The Viltrox is marginally softer wide open, and "catches up", more or less, around f/2-f/2.8. Sure, the edges are softer too, more or less across the board, but I don't pay much attention to that as I don't shoot walls for a living. Sometimes, less sharpness/contrast is what the doctor ordered since it is kinder to older faces (I do a lot of portrait/event style shooting). It is the chromatic aberration/fringing that forces me to deduct a star - with the Fuji I can be fearless. With the Viltrox, sometimes I have to consider a little more carefully how I set up a shot if I'm worried about it. But, notably, those issues really exist wide open. At f/2 and beyond they no longer matter a great deal or they become unnoticeable. Both lenses can slow down a lot and hunt in poor light or when you are working close to the minimum focus distance (the Fuji gets slightly closer, by the way). Anecdotally I've had better luck running the Viltrox a little below 1/200 shutter speeds in such cases and still nailing focus - can't say the same with the new Fuji where I seem stuck at 1/200 or higher. That said, when comparing images of a bookcase for this review, I can also note that the camera calculated slightly longer shutter speeds for the Viltrox than the Fuji in the same light. Perhaps, somehow, the Fuji has slightly better transmission. Most of this stuff is splitting hairs. A "real" potential drawback of the Viltrox is no in-camera correction profile. If you do lots of in-camera JPEG creation, you have to live with the native vignetting/distortion (minimal though it is) characteristics. Purple fringing, if it appears, is the main thing that might annoy you. Its easy to fix, but has to be done in post. In that sense, the native Fuji lens have added convenience since I routinely spit out in-camera JPEGs when I'm just playing around but then get one I'd like to keep, but am too lazy to import into C1. But the Viltrox has been worth the trouble in this sense - a little extra effort always goes a long way to turning good images into great ones whether using a native or this third part lens. I often ADD vignetting to photos, so frankly these are more notes than issues. In short, the Viltrox is overall a pretty awesome lens, a great way to play with the highly useful 85mm equivalent focal length and wide aperture shooting. It is easy to update via USB (if need be), and it has created some of my favorite images. Highly recommended. The money you saved can buy a flash or other accessories that will make your images way better than just paying for a more expensive lens can.

I love vintage lenses that provide a good balance of "character/pop/jenesaisquoi" but this lens is simply a bit too funky for my taste as I never managed to get a satisfyingly sharp image out of it compared to other viltroxes (23, 33, 85). I opted for the sigma instead.
