Being a member of my college's symphony, I wanted to start getting better quality equipment for my viola. I've heard good things about the carbon fiber bows so I searched around and found this one for a decent price. The first thing I noticed with this bow is that it is lighter than my previous bow, but I found that to be a plus. I do notice improvement on sound from my previous generic 30$ brown bow that I purchased from a local music store. The sound is more crisp and I find it easier to play a smooth and solid note at pianissimo level (was having difficulty playing a solid tone at such a low volume with previous bow).Note: The bow I received did NOT have the pearl dot screw like described.

Good value, for either a carbon or wood bow. Attractive looking--one hardly notices the faux work (e.g., fleur-de-lis "inlay" is stamped, wire wrap is wire tape). A good beginner-to-intermediate bow and great for fiddling, especially at this price. For those who care, I measure weight at 70 grams and balance point at 249 mm (from frog excluding button). Both measures in the normal range for viola bows, with the balance slightly tip-heavy. Stick is on the stiffer side (also good for fiddling). Straight stick with decent camber. The screw is a bit too tight, my only complaint. The horsehair (comes without initial rosin) seems good. I like it, though I prefer slightly frog-weighted bows, for speed and accent; I find myself choking up slightly to compensate. Bought this bow for use with an octave violin, and it's superior to a violin bow on that instrument.

I am very happy with the purchase of this bow. I am primarily a cellist, but wanted to improve my viola playing skills beyond what I learned in the methods class I had in college. I have used carbon fiber bows while cello playing and decided to purchase this bow. I am more than pleased with the quality and handling of this bow. It is a very attractive bow, especially with the fleur-de-lis in the frog. I would highly recommend it to anyone needing a viola bow.

The bow was fine, right up until the first time that the hair popped out of the tip. No unusual use before it broke, just some expressive playing. I tried fixing it myself several times, since the hair is just held in by compression. Once I realized that there was a crack in the plastic piece on the tip, I realized that the repair would not hold. The blue was added during my final repair attempt.

Heavier than the cheapest bow I can get at the local store, and incrementaly better. Wish I saved up to buy a bow that costs way more and is MUCH better than the cheapest bow at my local store. Everyone giving 5 stars because "it's straight" needs to get some better standards

I play in a band and frequently switch between viola and violin-- including some fiddling. I tend to just play with my viola bow on both instruments since venues are sometimes cramped, but my original bow that accompanied my instrument was bit heavy/clunky for some of the violin work. This is much lighter and handles pretty well. It took me a little bit to get used to because I would actually bounce the bow accidentally at times, but I've used it for a few gigs now and I'm very pleased. Couldn't beat the price!

kinda tip heavy, my pinky has to do some effort to keep he bow in the desired position. the hairs are beautiful, combined with a good rosin (goldflex pirastro) has a good sound, it scratchs waaaay less than the bow that came with m viola (140 bucks "alabama" viola), i would expect less scratch specially because the combination strings/bow/rosin i use (70 buck strings, this bow, and 16~25 bucks rosin depending where and when you buy it) but also my viola is cheap, the bridge is the bridge that came with the viola as well, so the scratch can come from there.that's regarding to sound, aesthetically is beautiful. i some times play with almost no tension on the bow which makes the hair rest on the rod, but i haven't seen any scratch, decolonization, etc. in 4 months of playing 2 hours a day no exception (including weekends) and concerts, and some extra work now and then. the bow has a proper curvature in the rod.for this price is amazing (should be a 4.7 stars but i cant do that)upadate: the hairs are really really delicate, and i have lost quite some hairs, not enough to make a difference, but enough that i could say i have lost at least 20 hairs, and i'm careful with the bow
