When it comes to materials that block sound, rubber is it. This mute is flexible, easy to put on and take off my violin. It is basic but it does the job. I can practice in the middle of the night if I like and the neighbors do not even know I am playing.

One of them was a bit too big for my violin but the other had a good fit.

These say they're made of rubber, so I'm not sure if it's the manufacturing process or something else, but these smell absolutely toxic coming out of the package. I washed them multiple times in hot soapy water and it barely got any better. This is going to be near your face, so I can't imagine using this unless the smell dissipates 100%. These are two-stars for now, just because of the smell — I'll update my review if I end up being able to actually put them on my violin!
