I am by no means of professional, but I really have enjoyed this bow! It does come with zero rosin on it, which is a very strange experience if you’re not used to that, so get a really good quality rien and spend the first couple of hours rosining. I like the balance and the grip and the weight!

This bow beat my old bow hands down on sound paired with a good rosin. Quality construction and it looks great and priced right.

I'm an adult beginner (was a child/teen "intermediate" 15-20 years ago, but...), and I love this bow. I wasn't especially displeased with the bow that came with my new beginner "adult" sized viola, but this is a definite step up! As someone with some physical limitations, I appreciate that it's not too heavy (but not so light that it flies away from you). And it's "pretty"! At time of writing, it's a dollar or so under $60, which is an excellent value for what you're getting. 100% recommend. A great upgrade for a student, and a great gift for the beg./int. violist in your life!

This is a review of the "Viotti Carbon Fiber Viola Bow, Hand Crafted by Professional Bow Makers, Strong, Stiff & Well Balanced, Made with Mongolian Horse Hair, For Violist of All Skill Levels (Pearl)"I am a professional-level violinist and violist. I am a symphony concertmaster, chamber musician, and soloist who has played everything from ~$500-1000 carbon fiber bows to an actual FX Tourte valued at $200,000. With memories of how awful Construction quality: I’m most impressed by the frog and button (the part that you use to tighten/loosen the hairs). What comes on the Viotti could easily be on a $1000+ stick without any question. The thumb grip could be leather although it’s a little plasticy. The “premium nickel winding” looks nice from a distance but up close looks like a fancy metallic sticker rather than a true winding (based on the price, I’m not surprised). The stick itself is fine, nothing to rave about or complain about. The hair is horse hair as described, perhaps a little on the narrow side in terms of the amount in comparison to what I’m used to, but not an insufficient quantity of hair. The tip is plastic and a bit roughly executed but adequate.Weight: 66.6 grams, which is on the light side but not too far out of the normal range for a viola bow (67 to 73 grams).Playing quality: The Viotti handles extremely well and I had no trouble at all with a wide range of bow strokes -- legato, sticcato, spiccato, détaché, martelé, ricochet, etc. I felt like I had the control I needed and the bow was the right level of stiffness (neither being too rigid or too spongy).Tone quality: Pretty good, without being amazing. For a student bow at this price point, excellent.Summary: Considering that for the $58 that this bow sells for is about the same as the cost of a local bow rehair, the value is excellent and the playing quality is way better than low-end pernambuco bows selling for $1000. I would not hesitate to recommend the Viotti viola bow to any beginning student. Another way of looking at this is that if you have a limited budget, buying the Viotti viola bow will allow you to put more money towards the viola itself and end up with a better overall setup.

This was listed as a viola bow but weighs in at 58g which is more suited for violin than viola. also the amount of hair seems to less than standard. Light bow, has nice bounce, I'll probably rehair it at some point. But it is now in my violin case instead of being used for a viola.

The bow comes in a box and is plastic wrapped for protection with bubble wrap. The bow hair comes without any rosin on it so you will need to apply your rosin on the bow before you can use it. The leather grip near the frog where your thumb goes feels a little bit on the cheap side and doesn't give much of a grip as I would like, but it is not a big deal. This bow weighs 67 grams and is a little underweighted. In comparison to my other bow made by a contemporary viola bow maker, my bow is 70 grams. With this lighter carbon fiber bow, I have to work harder to make good contact with the string, especially in the upper half of the bow. I also have to work a little harder to make it bounce when doing spiccato. The screw to tighten the bow is not that deep. I would have preferred to be able to tighten the bow hair much more, but the screw gets harder to turn and I did not want to turn it too much and break it.Overall, I recommend this bow if you're a beginner on a budget. The price you pay for what you get is fine with this bow. Since it is carbon fiber, it would be hard to break if you accidentally dropped it and it isn't sensitive to temperature and humidity changes. I plan to use this bow as a backup bow for outdoor events, or when a piece uses col legno (hit the string with the wood of the bow and not with the bow hair).
