  • The redesigned Diamondback HD spotting scope has all the optical horsepower the western hunter needs, and excels in low light. It features a streamlined exterior for a sleeker profile and a built-in helical focus wheel for fast and fine adjustments.
  • HD optical system delivers exceptional resolution, cuts chromatic aberration and provides outstanding color fidelity, edge-to-edge sharpness and light transmission. Multiple anti-reflective coatings on all air-to-glass surfaces increase light transmission
  • Adjustable eyecups twist up and down for comfortable viewing with or without eyeglasses. The built-in sunshade reduces glare and shields the objective lens from raindrops and snow.
  • The scope is tripod adaptable allowing use on a tripod or car window mount. Arca-Swiss compatibility allows it to be mounted to Arca-Swiss tripod heads without using additional plates. Also accepts 1/4-20 threads for use on alternate style tripod heads.
  • O-ring sealed and argon purged, the scope delivers waterproof and fogproof performance. Armortek coatings protect the lenses from oil, scratches, and dirt. Rubber armor enhances both durability and grip for the user.
  • Backed by our unlimited, unconditional, lifetime, VIP Warranty. A fully transferable promise to repair or replace your item if it becomes damaged/defective. Does not cover loss, theft, deliberate damage or cosmetic damage that doesn't hinder performance.

Inside and out, the Diamondback HD spotter is a thing of beauty. Inside, HD quality optics deliver incredible resolution, dramatically reduced chromatic aberration, and outstanding edge-to-edge color fidelity. On the outside, a helical focus wheel delivers faster dialing and a sleek form factor for easy packing.

Let me tell you something here : I am not optics expert here. I am your average Joe who always had middle of the road binoculars (like Nikon Monarch 7, three of them in different configurations). I am not expert, bur guess what : I have eyes !!!! i ALSO HAVE A GOOD VISION. And I know what to look for.I got me this Vortex Diamonback HD 20-60X85 and I am pleasantly surprised what a great quality optics this is. First of all it's super clear. It is shoulder to shoulder with my Nikon Monarch 7 witch has ED glass. View is very clear with plenty of light even on the cloudy day. I have NO distortion whatsoever even at the high end Zoom. The build quality of this thing is phenomenal. It's built like a tank. Please don't listen to these optics snobs here that are picky about this scope. They clearly have no clue what they are talking about. How come ? Very simple : You DO NOT compare Honda with Mercedes S Class, do you ? And this is what every one of them does. This scope is a Honda. It will get you there, it will last long time, and it will give you good service. Mercedes will do that too, and more, but at what price ?If you are on the fence, go for it and don't look back.

My wife and I bought this spotting scope for viewing wildlife, particularly wolves in Yellowstone National Park. We have not had a chance to do that yet but in using it here at home, we are satisfied with the optical quality and ease of use. It's Arca-Swiss compatible "foot" works perfectly with all of my photographic tripods. It is also a nice, solid and comparatively light-weight unit. My only complaint is the way it was packaged at Amazon. The scope was securely and safely packaged in a box by the manufacturer; however, the manufacturer's box was repackaged in a larger box by Amazon. No packing material of any sort was placed in Amazon's box so that the manufacturer's box would slide back and forth inside. In fact, when my wife picked it up on the porch, the box slid inside the larger Amazon box. As a result, the imbalance caused the box to slip from my wife's hands and fall to the floor. Fortunately, the scope was so securely packed in the manufacturer's box that no damage incurred. It wouldn't have taken much packaging to prevent this from happening. We have ordered a lot of items from Amazon but in this instance, I would have expected more care from Amazon workers.

Initially I loved this scope, considering it a good value, and I still think it is, unless you often use it at full magnification. I used it to view shorebirds, who are often far enough out to need full mag and I could not get it to focus sharp enough to view the fine details that I needed to identify similar species vs one another. The build quality seems fantastic, it looks great, and is super easy to use, but not quite enough detail for my needs so I wound up returning it. I fear a significant investment is needed to get the quality of Glass you need for long distance birding where detail is a must, but if you don't need to use it at full magnification often, I'd still say go for it but realize you're not getting a 2K spotter here but still very nice I bet for most and it's built like an absolute tank.

So I purchased the Gosky 20-60x80 and the Vortex Diamondback 20-60x85 with the intent of doing a comparison and keeping the best performing. Assuming you wait for the price drop which happens occasionally here on Amazon, you can get the Gosky for $200 less than the Diamondback.Briefly: the Gosky has significantly better image than the more expensive Vortex, however the Vortex is better built/ergonomics. I kept the Gosky.Longer version is that the Gosky has ED glass and the different in chromatic aberration (CA) is significant. The Vortex has significant CA or "purple fringe" and it's very noticeable on thin objects like tree branches while the Gosky has nearly zero CA.In terms of sharpness, these are both very sharp optically and are basically indistinguishable from each other in my testing of them side-by-side on tripods looking ~200yds away at car license plates, trees with birds in them, etc.I will say that I don't find the dual-speed focusing of the Gosky as good as the single speed of the Vortex. The Vortex was easier to focus while even the "slow speed" of the Gosky was more fussy/sensitive. Both scopes have extremely narrow depth-of-focus- so this is a definite "plus" for the Vortex. For my use- where I'll be focusing on stationary targets where I have plenty of time to tweak the focuser this isn't that big of a deal. Both scopes have a ring which allows you to rotate where the eyepiece of the scope is pointing which is really nice, but only the Vortex has an Arca-Swiss dovetail QR plate for connecting to a camera tripod. The Gosky has a standard 1/4" thread so you'll need to provide your own QR plate. In terms of quality, the Vortex is a notch better built- the grey plastic body of the Gosky in particular feels cheaper and will crack if not taken care of. Of course, has glass optics so hopefully you're not using either as a baseball bat/etc. That said, the Vortex seems a little higher quality- but neither would be confused with a $1000+ scope. The Vortex did come with a nice neoprene wrap to help protect it as well while the Gosky came with a cheap soft case which I guess will protect it from getting scratched, but not much else. Both come with dust caps, but only the Vortex caps are captured so it's easier to loose the dust caps which come with the Gosky.

I received the scope the other day. The secondary optic isn't working, but as always, Vortex is there to help. I'm shipping it out to them tomorrow instead of returning it.I can still focus it and am blown away by how clear the image is even at a distance. It is worth the price they charge, and the support they provide is first class.

I have only had the scope for a few weeks, but I'm very happy so far. It is far superior to my old Bushnell scope with a higher power and better clarity. It is a bit heavier than my old scope, but I'm willing to put up with that for the better optics. I'm looking forward to spring birding season.
