The meter cover is locked with a five sided bolt. None of my wrenches or sockets could fit. Even using a Channel-Lock was not easy since the bolt is recessed below the cover.This fit right away and unlocked the cover with a quarter turn.

I needed it to gain access to my water meter. It worked fine and the square shaped part of the shaft allowed me to use a wrench to apply the extra torque to turn the somewhat frozen bolt on the meter box cover.

My water main sprung a leak and this is just what I needed to get into my meter pit so I could shut off my water. Great tool to have on hand or buy when needed

The city is converting all of the water meters to electronic and installing new plastic covers with these pentagon securing bolts. I suppose you can remove the bolt with a vice grip. I wanted to be able to access the service cutoff valve in the event of a leak. This tool does the trick!

The key works with the nut on a round EMCO curb box but it fits loose. It may strip out if the plug is rusted on or too tight.
