Worked great. Only changed the 4.5" drive gear, everything else was fine and worked without any hitches.

Biggest issue is knocking out the pin that holds the gear on the motor. You will need the proper sized punch, or you can use the flat end of an old drill bit. After that, it's easy. Replace the motor gear (this is the one that wears out. Mine also had a tooth broken), Then replace the driven gear. There was plenty of grease in the area to spread back over the new gears. The chain and the gears that drive the ram screws were all in fine shape. Make sure to slide the motor back enough to make the gears and chain tight so they don't rattle or slip off. I also cleaned and lubed the screws tha driver the ram up and down. Since this gear set wore out on my Sears compactor after only 3 years, I bought TWO replacement sets and taped the extra set to the back of the unit for next time. Note: My original Sears compactor lasted from 2000 to 2015. Want to do the math on that? All new appliances are cheap Chinese-made crap. Shame on us. Sorry. Don't expect them to last but a few years at best.

Perfect fit and fast shipping. I had bought a no name brand before, and my trash compactor was so noisy, and the gears had a lot of play in them. They finally broke and then I purchased this genuine OEM gear set and wow what a difference. The gears fit together tight with no play and my trash compactor is so quite like it used to be when I first bought it. DONT buy the cheap gear set, it's not worth it in the long run.

Even though my weird model trash compactor wasn't in the manufacturer or model list for this repair kit, I could tell by the pictures it was awfully close and took a chance. The gears are a perfect match and just what I needed. Installing the new gears was a chore - not the fault of the kit but the fault of a 30+ year old compactor that had never been serviced. Getting the big gear off was fairly easy, but I did it in an unconventional way - instead of loosening the motor I loosened one of the corner gears.Getting the shaft gear off was pure hell, I finally had to heat the shaft and then the pin could be hammered out using a pin-punch. Putting the new gear on was straight-forward as I could apply some grease first. Then I started sorting through all the other parts in the kit and discovered they do not fit inside my weird compactor, but then again nothing was malfunctioning other than the broken gear so I didn't care. So the parts for the two rods that pull the compactor top down were not used.I used this opportunity to thoroughly clean the chain and screw rods, and put heavy duty grease back on them - hopefully I will get years of additional service for the old compactor. I checked the compactor to make sure it was not compressing too hard - this breaks the gear I had to replace. If you have your original manuals then you will find a section that describes how to set the compaction pressure correctly. Too little and you use more bags, too much and you start damaging the compactor components.

Exactly what I needed to fix my broken trash compactor. It was stuck in the down position. The large white gear pictured is what broke in half on my compactor. There are several videos on YouTube that show how to take the compactor apart to get to the gear and fix it. Apparently the breaking of the gear is a fairly common occurrence. It’s not hard to replace the gear, and it sure beats paying someone $200 to fix the compactor or spending $600 to buy a new one. I didn’t need the other parts supplied, but replaced them as well just for the heck of it.

I repaired our trash compactor. The parts were OEM, arrived in a timely fashion, and were reasonably priced.
