I bought this auger specifically because it has an hexagonal shaft instead of a round one. The round one turns in the drill too easily. But, be aware- if you are in tough soil or clay, when the auger gets stuck the drill is going to turn and if you are not prepared you could break a wrist. Recommend using a drill with two handles rather than just the pistol grip. That being said- it works great. Great for busting through "gumbo" soils to give deep rooting plants a chance.

This auger is the best tool I have bought in a long time. It is so easy to you. Just insert it into your cordless drill and start drilling holes for bulbs and bedding plants. Because there is a 24" shaft you can stand up-no kneeling, no getting up and down to plant a row and fast! One thing to note it doesn't do well in soil that is filled with roots but does work in hard soil. Even so you can use this to mark where you want to plant. So far I've used the auger for bedding plants and I really am excited for fall to come so I can plant many tulips! Please note check the torque on the drill. You will need to adjust it.

I only wish I had bought this years ago. It works great for planting grass plugs. Drill hole, drop in some plug starter fertilizer, place plug in hole, step on plug and move on to the nest one. I have planted probably 75 trays of plugs over the past 25 years I have lived in this house. Most of which I did on my knees digging the hole. This is a major labor and time saver. Its heavy duty and will last forever.

The actual tool is fine, but if you have any roots below two to three inches, it stops and won't go any further.

100 Core plugs in red clay and still going. If it will do another 100 or 2 I'll be happy. Use a corded drill, don't burn up your good cordless.

A great bulb planter. Solidly built with beveled top edges so that it doesn't slip in the drill like my previous one did. Very fast shipping.
