It's a block of non-resonant wood with the typical slots carved into opposite sides.Looks like a woodblock - maybe there's some value there.Cannot be heard very far away.But the quality of the sound is so dead, who cares?

Great quality little wood block. My husband is drummer and I got this for him. He added it to his extensive kit and says it's a fun addition that he's finding lots of uses for. He uses it for drum lessons and timing - it works well for both and it's so light weight and comfortable to hold. It also works out well when he needs a higher pitch than his other wood blocks can acheive.
