Our daughter wanted a judge's gavel for Christmas. We didn't want to give her a toy one, but didn't want to spend a lot of money on a "real" one either. This seemed to be a good balance. It is certainly authentic and very professional looking. I could see this being a gift to someone graduating law school. But my 9-year old loved it so she can play judge. If you're giving it to a kid, you definitely want to make sure they hit the wooden base since this could probably damage certain tables if struck hard enough.

My daughter bought this as a gift for her teacher who was using a broken gavel. It is heavy and well made. Hopefully this one will hold up better than the one he had before :)

I bought this for the club of which I was a president, formerly, and the gavel was lost in mailing. I got this as a quick substitute the registered package could be found. They like this one better.

I gave this to our out going President more as a keepsake, a reminder of her time in office. It was not purchased as a working item! If it were to be used, I would have gone with a little shorter handle and a larger head. Hope this helps!

This gavel appears to be a lightweight particle board with a thin layer of wood-colored plastic coating on top. Purchased for presiding over mock trials for a weekend. Over zoom, looks fine, but in person, it is flimsy and light. Plastic coating must be very delicate as the gavel arrives with half a dozen scratch marks which reveal the inside before even attempting to use it. Ended up just leaving it on my desk for show.Cheap and fine for a costume or one-off.
