I bought this as a gag gift for a professor at university. It was good quality and looked good. However when hit, instead of making a loud gavel sound the plate jumps up and is funky sounding. I would suggest it as a gag but nothing more.

If you know someone who uses a gavel this is a very nice one! I have a friend who chairs a meeting and she loved it! She said it was "classier" than any she had before.

This gavel is pretty nice, the only thing I do not like is that it sounds like a hallow sound when used. The surface of what you have it on effects the sound greatly. It sounds better when you hold the base plate in your hand when using it. Which is odd, but it’s a nice gavel nonetheless.
