About a year ago the ice coming from my refrigerators ice maker started coming out with a brown tint to it and tasted terrible. I tried to remove the ice bin and wasn't able to do so because it was really stuck in there. I replaced my water filter but that didn't help so I started purchasing bagged ice for use in my household. When I saw this ice bin on Amazon I jumped to the chance to acquire it. I was hopeful when it arrived because it looks just like my old one. I had to get on You Tube to figure out how to remove the old one and ended up using a hair dryer to melt the ice underneath it. The old one still didn't want to come out so I used more force and shook it at the same time and it finally let go. The reason it was stuck and the reason for the brown ice was due to the amount of rust that was in it. I would have thought than an ice maker would be rust proof, shame on Whirlpool. I included two picture of my old ice bin focusing on the rust. I don't know if the blades on this new ice bin are actually thicker than the the old ones but they do look robust and hopefully they wont rust. I'm very happy with this new ice bin and I'm happy to no longer having to purchase bags of ice. I recommend it.

We have had our current refrigerator for several years and a couple of months ago, the ice maker wouldn’t dispense ice. Further inspection showed that the ice bucket had developed a hole and that ice was falling through and freezing the bucket to the compartment and had also frozen the action of the blades. It required a hair dryer to melt the ice and free the bucket from the compartment.We have a service warranty on our appliances, so a service technician came to the house and has ordered the parts. But, it is taking a while for them to arrive and meanwhile our refrigerator is leaking. This part arrived in one day- and is a small fraction of the cost of the OEM part. It fits and works well and looks identical to the original - though I don’t think the fit is quite identical. It will definitely serve us while we wait for the OEM part and then I will put it away as a backup in case of future issues.

This ice tray is a perfect match to the original from my whirlpool WRX988SIBM01 fridge. Fits and functions exactly like the original. Very happy with this. Great value.

Fits and it works as expected. Seems as if the third party product developer has beefed up this unit due to the overwhelming need for a reliable alternative to the cheaply made OEM bucket. The OEM bucket, by the way, will set you back a little over $300, thank you very much whirlpool.

It's a great replacement that fits this refrigerator model perfectly. The quality is also quite good. Installation was simple—just snapped right into place, just like the original. The rotating blades are smooth, ensuring seamless ice dispensing. So far, it's working great!
