I got this item for an elementary school age kid and realized that it is designed to show a bit of a cinched waist. This is a better cut for an older girl who might a more defined waist look, but it feels kind of forced on a really young girl. I also wish I could put in the dryer. I usually ignore those instructions and go for it anyway, but since this recommends dry cleaning or hand washing, I used the hand wash setting on my washer and then hung it dry. Again, bigger girls won't abandon their coats on the playground or jump in piles of leaves or drag it across the garage floor (really!?!), so it won't need to be washed as frequently. As the snow starts falling, this one might not work best for us since sometimes you really need to throw the coat in the dryer and then bundle them up again same day. With this one, you'll be waiting and waiting and waiting for the coat to dry fully. For big girls, though, good pockets, the zipper works, and the hood keeps them warm and cozy. I would recommend this for middle school and up - less so for 4th grade and younger. It's a smart and current look for a big girl.

My daughter is hard on clothes. I encourage her to play, and man, does she!This jacket is a touch too big for her. I ordered it that way so she could grow into it. Well, a few of her coats have disappeared while at school so far this year, and we have had to use this one a few times. It always comes home so dirty you'd think it would never come clean. But one wash cycle and a hang dry later, it looks like it just came in the mail.Definitely a great addition to your small person's wardrobe!

This winter coat fits a little larger than the sizing. This is actually really good for a coat like this since it means bulkier clothing (like sweaters) can be worn underneath. It is not so much extra room that the coat is hanging off if there is not bulky clothes underneath.The coat is stylish for the discerning child who cares about that. Most importantly it is warm and will keep the wearer comfortable in cooler weather.
