These are pretty basic. They permit you to get an approximation of how much friction material is left on your brake pads which can be tough to do visually sometimes due odd sight lines and angles that mess up your perspective.There are a number of gauges that flip out and you slide each in between the pad and rotor until you can't fit a larger one. The thickness is stamped into each gauge.Comparing these to the ones that are carrried at your local import tool store shows that the stamping on these is a tad better (deeper and outlined), and that a nut and bolt are used to hold them together instead of a rivet.The latter would allow you to separate them if needed and then bolt them back together.Both will do the job. In the end it likely comes down to price, but these are a but nicer.

To my surprise, these weren't plastic gauges.The thicknesses are "close" enough to the claimed size, but they're not accurate. Some of the gauges aren't quite straight and have a curve to them with the pin clamped down.Has a nylock nut, which is superb.These are excellent gauges for a very quick & rough estimate.
