It smelled very strong. I washed it in my washer on the delicate setting and hung it in the sunshine to dry. No more smell.

I bought this for a small 36 inch round table and cut it to fit. It works great but there's one problem. It stink terribly! I had to wash it first and leave it outside to dry. They put a fragrance packet in with it but it doesn't help at all. My hands got super itchy when I first touched it. If you don't mind washing and letting it dry first, then go for it.
