Going on roof to clean and do maintenance, needed a way to tie off at the roof ridge. Bought the Guardian ss single D-ring strap on Amazon, it is great quality also. If you can't see the rafter to center the strap over it all eight 3.5" ss spiral nails may not go into the rafter. So I planned ahead and drilled a 3/8" hole in the center line of the strap one inch from the D-ring. I bought a 5" long 3/8" ss lag screw and a ss fender washer to really secure the strap to the rafter. Sure enough all eight nails didn't drive hard into the rafter. I drilled a 1/8" pilot hole through the single, the plywood and the rafter, I had a long drill bit. Now to the rope grab first I bought several figure 8 repelling brackets but they would be too time consuming and hard to use so I sent them back to Amazon, thank GOD amazon has the best return policy. I then bought this rope grab and it is perfect and so easy to use on my 1/2" dia. rope. I now feel very safe on the roof.

full disclaimer though, I am using this device for roof work, with a 3/8 inch braided rope. its a 100 foot rope attached to an object on the other side of the house. Its perfect for peace of mind while going up and down the ladder and walking around the roof. I am not using this for actual climbing, only for fall protection and it works great. I was able to put a lot of weight on it with no slip. The way the device is designed, the harder you pull, the harder it bites into the rope.

I am using this device with a 12 mm double braided nylon sail halyard for ascending my 40 foot mast of my sailboat. I use 2 of these. One for my feet and one for my main body harness. I was able to climb the forty feet in less than 15 minutes on first try. The metal is NOT stainless steel and would last longer in a salt environment if it was Stainless steel. I don't make that many ascents so I'm OK with its performance. It's best if not used in a salt air environment.

I do construction, and use this on roofs. Easy to use, well made, and I works...I've already "tested" it twice.

This is nice and it's well made. I bought another brand and it allows me to reverse direction. For my needs on roofs I need a rope grab that changes on the other side of the roof.

Works awesome! Very well built. I am a semi-pro handyman and I use this for roof work on some steep pitches and long drops. I have to trust my life and my livelihood to this little device and I do so with confidence.

It may or may not be a problem, depending on the nature of your rope, that this grab is NOT removable. You may, as I do, have to cut your rope to install. I don't want to do that so I'm returning. Otherwise it looks like a quality grab.

Would be not too easy to adjust so I retuned them and got hand clamps for climbing. I just want to steady myself on a sloped roof next summer so I don't fall when I reshingle not arrest after I fall
