Took some time to assemble but worth it. An hour of leisurely work. But instructions were outstanding. Hardest part was mounting but with 2 people and making sue of your measurements you will be fine. Installed on my wooden tiki bar to provide some cover during heavy rain. Tried it out and just had it halfway out and worked perfectly. Even in heavy gusts of wind or didn't waver or budge. But note what height you mount caise it slopes. I have it only 7 feet above and when open completely you will have to duck under of you are 6 feet. No biggie. Better the coverage. Wife loves it. Very attractive and will keep my bar friends dry and out of the sun. Would recommend highly.

A few things people should realize before buying. I read a few reviews saying it took 3 hours to put up. Well, yea. It all depends on where it is being installed. I never bought this thinking I would have it up in an hour. Assembly was simple. No problem. 1/2 hour by myself. You will need 2 people to put it up. Depending on what you are mounting it to different anchors and or screws will be required. If it falls down, you did it wrong. Not the fault of the awning. You also have to remember it is not made to handle heavy wind and heavy rain. If it is windy bring it in. I have a Sunsetter Awning and I even bring that in when it is windy. Just a tip. If you want to make it easy to put in and out. I adapted the hand crank to put in in a cordless screwdriver. Makes it easier and faster. Just be careful. Don't go to fast. Common sense. I also put a hood over it to cover it when rolled up. Not hard. The brackets have unused hole on the top. At least it will be protected in the winter.

Seems to be well made. Instructions are actually pretty good. I recommend you use lag bolts instead of the molly bolts that come with it if you are mounting to wood. I believe the mollies are for concrete or brick walls.

This awning is perfect for our needs - light rain and wind resistant. If you're in an area with heavy rainstorms and wind, I recommend reeling it in and as I'm unsure if it'll resist such weather. The biggest recommendation I can give for installation is to WATCH THE INSTRUCTIONS VIDEO IN THE ITEM LISTING!! We struggled for hours with the directions until I realized there was a video next to the photos in the listing. You will need 2 people to install this, one ladder and at least a step ladder as well. You got this.

We bought this and put it up. It took HOURS, Literally HOURS for my husband and his friend to install (they were expecting like 1 hour max.) Then in less than a week as I was opening it the spring on the end broke, it smapped and swung down. It hit my 1yr old in the face splitting her lip. I'm extremely grateful it didn't do more damage. But then I contacted customer service and they sent a replacement part. We installed that. Less than a month later the entire side ripped out of the wall... at that point we weren't willing to get ANOTHER replacement part because I didn't want to risk it breaking again and doing either more damage to our siding or injuring someone. Would NEVER recommend this product.

I have been looking for a retractable awning for a couple of years, but I've been put off by the cost. I hade been looking at the Sunsetter brand. Probably an awesome brand but, I don't think it could be that much better and certainly not more functionable for the price. I installed by myself and I'm 70. We'll see how it lasts but I see little reason I couldn't expect a couple of years. I have not checked to see if they sell the replacement canvas part.... that would be nice to know. I did think I had a missing part that I email the mfg about. They immediately sent out another part. On comparison, I determined I actually had it. My bad and thanks to them! The picture of the part in the instructions isn't very accurate for the part. It's a bushing that goes on one end of the canvas roll. So far I'm very satisfied.

We are very happy with this awning that brings shade where there was none and protects us from raining when it does. Three comments, though. The open ended aluminum top tube flattens easily, which happened to the original set we bought. Fortunately Amazon's commendable service immediately send a new set. The same flattening of the top tube was present with this one, but fortunately only such that it was repairable. The suggestion is to protect the open end of the top tube with a temporary insert, for transport. The second comment is related to the fact that the awning as sold is meant for houses made out of brick and mortar. The included anchor bolts are supposed to go into holes to be drilled in brick or concrete. Our house, though, is a standard wood framed construction. Fortunately there is an outside 2x6" beam on 4x4" pillars where we were able to drill two 3/8" holes for four 1/2" lag bolts, 2.5" long. Again, the suggestion is to include a mounting solution for the, here, standard wood framed house. Note, though that any mounting solution must be able to withstand the full weight of the awning, including accumulated rain water. The third comment is related to the length of the crank, which is too long for us. It would be good if there was an easy way to shorten the crank..
