The device is just what you might expect from Yamaha - the metronome is a quality product at a good price. Instructions explain how to take care of the metronome. It is plastic but well made, and it tic tocs as you would expect a windup metronome would sound. Significantly, it is loud. This way you can easily hear it through closed headphones. This is how I use it. Of course if you are trying not to disturb other people, then you might want to use an electronic metronome with headphone connectiviy. You could place the device at a distance to minimize volume if sound level is a problem. The device has a bell that marks off measure boundaries in time that can be turned off if desired. One point concerning electronic metronomes, make sure if you opt for one of these you are getting the sound you want. Some of the electronic devices I looked at beeped at just one frequency with no other choices for sound output.A minor point is that the device has just three legs making it more unstable. Another is that the metronome should not be exposed to direct sunlight for a lengthy period of time as it will damage the metronome. Neither of these points detracted from the overall quality. Accordingly, I rated it five stars.

I bought this over other metronomes when I read a review saying it was quite loud. I teach violin and a metronome to expose beginning/intermediate students to practicing with them. Its loudness means it can be clearly heard while the student is playing alone or if I am playing with them. I had two much quieter metronomes I used with students before buying this one and they had trouble hearing and focusing on the quieter ones. I was afraid they wouldn’t like the loudness of this one but they seem to like it and find it helpful. Full disclosure- For my personal practice I do have one that is not quite as loud. I recommend this for teachers or for personal practice if you like a very strong sounding metronome.

Although the body feels kind of thin (it's plastic, not wood) and not particularly sturdy, this is an excellent metronome. It is LOUD and very mechanical sounding. I actually prefer that, rather than something that might sound more musical. Well worth the money.

This metronome functions well, but its loud, plasticky sound annoyed me. I replaced it with a digital metronome.

I prefer the analog click of a metronome to today's more common digital clicks, so I purchased this Yamaha unit. It works just fine, and is accurate. The drawback is you can only use the available tempo settings, rather than adjust to a precise number of clicks (e.g., if you want 83 beats per minute, you're out of luck with the Yamaha). It uses a windup key which winds 18 1/2 times and length of time it lasts depends on how fast you set the beats per minute. The metronome itself seems sturdy and well-made, and it looks nice. It is also stable; it doesn't rock on a flat surface and is not prone to tipping over. The beats are easy to set and the metronome is easy to use.

At first glance, the packaging is plain, but well thought out. Small packaging parts prevents physical movements to the mechanical movements during transit. Unpacking was intuitive. Other companies, take note: the entire user experience matters!Needless to say, time is kept accurately with a loud beat. This particular model has an optional bell chime to mark subdivisions of 2, 3, 4, or 6.While made well, there are annoyances. The mechanical spring tension is heavier than the entire metronome, making one-handed cranking impossible. The plastic dust cover is also a bit tight, making it difficult to remove. Further, the three raised feet are bare plastic, which makes finding ground a bit uneasy.However, this metronome looks good while doing the job. The understated, matte black finish disappears into the background while keeping time. Even though there could be more power in the reserve (about 45 minutes at 60 bpm), it's arguably a nice reminder for the musician to take a break.For an at-home metronome under $50, this one's hard to beat.

This is a good-quality metronome of which the music student AND teacher both approved! This is a handsome, portable metronome with a brake to keep the rod safely in place while transporting. I did quite a bit of research on many sites and found this unit to be reasonably-priced, accurate, and a good study instrument. I found metronomes priced less expensively, but the reviews of initial and ongoing inaccuracy and breakdowns kept me away. This is one of those items that, if you purchase a poor-quality one, it is worse than having nothing at all. I expect this metronome to serve her well for many years to come, and the Yamaha brand gives me good peace of mind.

I picked this Metronome up because of Yamaha branding. But it is extremely light and plastic. It is something that you would find at Temu for $3.99.

It's really nice. It's REALLY loud. Also, it's really overpriced. Good for some antique collection, and for practice if you want to stay away from your phone.

Good quality metronome. Came well packaged and I was pretty satisfied as a casual pianist at first.After using it for a year or so, the sound started becoming uneven to an unusable degree.. I had high expectation for YAMAHA brand but was a bit disappointed to see that it did not last long so I stopped using it. Maybe it could be just mechanical limitation.
