This Yamaha thumb rest cushion is a snug fit on the thumb rest and provides excellent support and comfort. The synthetic black rubber like material is soft and pliable and is just slightly larger in diameter than the thumb rest. My own preference is for the Protec thumb rest cushion (available direct from Amazon), which is of a larger diameter and an even softer material than the Yamaha, providing even better support and comfort, yet an equally snug fit. However, the greater size of the Protec cushion can be a problem in clarinet cases that do not allow much depth beneath the thumb rest, and the Protec cushion is translucent rather than black.UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW: Now that I have used both the Yamaha and Protec thumb rest cushions for some months now, I actually have a slight preference for the Yamaha cushion over the Protec. I find the firmer material and smaller size of the Yamaha cushion to actually be more comfortable and less distracting. I also have found that most clarinet cases do not accommodate the larger size of the Protec cushion, but the Yamaha cushion usually fits just fine. The final word is that both thumb rests are excellent, and your preference will depend upon you.

This Yamaha thumb rest cushion is the most expensive one you can by ... but it's worth it. All the other ones my daughter tried were terrible, and she couldn't use them. They were all super hard, which is weird, because they were all made of silicone. This the ONLY one she found to be comfortable, so this is what we will stick with.

This cushion works well and is comfortable and all that, but the main advantage over its competitors is that it doesn't fall off. I've had enough of crawling around on the floor looking for ones I have tried previously. It's costly, but well worth it.
Improved my sound. Better than my old ligature.

Does not look like the one from the picture keeps coming off, not thick at all and my thumb still hurts.

It is a ok thumbrest cushion for my son's clarinet, but the price is really high. One piece of small rubber with a hole with this price is a good business for Yamaha. Not sure if it is worth it We will find out in the future.

This thumb rest cushion is very comfortable without too much bulk. It fits nicely on my Leblanc clarinet and does not seem like it will easily slip off. I have had this problem with other products. I am happy with this Yamaha brand.

Thumb rest fits great, easy to attach, but sits very firm when in place. Comfortable when playing, does the job very well. Very satisfied.

So the product is a pretty nice fit and has a comfortable feel to it. On the Oboe, the cushion barley fits and seems a bit small, but nonetheless, it works. Really, the only problem with this cushion is how small it is; at least that is on the oboe. In a matter of price, I would not recommend getting this if you have a budget, it is nearly double the price of an average thumb rest. But if you do have some money to spare and don't mind the cost, then yes, go ahead and buy it.

This Yamaha Clarinet Thumb Rest fits my Yamaha Clarinet perfectly. It is very comfortable. My Yamaha clarinet bare thumb rest is small and rough. When I used this thumb rest I can play longer without hurting my thumb.
