Yamaha R&D conducted extensive field tests with leading bands, and has redesigned the bracing for a more open 'free-blowing' feel. The overall balance has also been changed making it more comfortable to hold and play, while the slide configuration has been reworked improving both intonation and tone qualities.

These are built for marching ! And, the mello players in our band who had Yamahas had much better sound than the other makers. Plays LOUD and Clean !

It is a disappointment; I'm probably going to try to end up selling mine; the intonation is not much of an improvement over the YMP 201. I can't gig with it, my band members complain about the intonation. They would much rather I play my old Dynasty G mellophone which I got used for less than 1/3 of what I paid for the Yamaha. Feel free to contact me if you want to make me an offer ...
