After leaving the military I had a case with all of this stuff but Ive misplaced it and sadly I dont know where to even begin to look. I saw this kit as I was looking for just a grid map protractor. What really turned me to investigate this more is the compass. The compass alone is worth $30 as this is a military siting compass, that is it has a small view hole to use to shoot an azimuth and gives you the precise degree measurement through the site. It also can be used as a standard lensatic compass as also has the sighting line in the top cover of the compass. There are two sets of measurement on each side of the compass for measuring distances on maps. You also get a set of pace counting beads a military grid map protractor and a set of alcohol based markers that can be used on maps that are either laminated or non laminated. If using on a non laminated map these are permanent type markers with dual ends giving the choice of a fat marker tip or a thin and precise line tip. Using them on laminated maps, they can easily be cleaned using alcohol to wipe away marks although if they are left too long there will be staining left behind. Overall the kit should be about a $60 purchase but its half the price for a really great deal.

The compass is very solid. Pace beads were a little smaller than I expected. Over all very happy.

Used it for land nav and had few issues . The markers tend to dry really fast !
