I've had this instrument for several months and have had time to play it in several venues and occasions. I find the tone of this viola to be exquisite. Replacing the strings it came with, I knew the instrument was capable of more sound and replaced them with D'Addario Helicore ( just my preference). The result is superb and have had numerous comments on the sound.This is the 5-string 16.5 inch model. It does take some getting used to because of the length the arm must stretch and the fingers must hover over the strings. Reaching over to note the low C-string can be a challenger. It is not a child's instrument.The instrument itself is quality built, well constructed and feels good in the hand, like a quality tool. The finish is not fancy, but it is beautiful. It's heavy due to the solid wood it is made from. I will need to strengthen my arms for this. :)For around $200.00 I don't think you'll find a better instrument for the price. I've played orchestral instruments for over half a century and can recommend this instrument highly.

I'll start by saying that I'm keeping this instrument, and that it's a good instrument for the price.Getting the "negative" points out first...1.) I ordered a 15" and received a 16." However, since my child is able to make it work and is still growing (eventually graduating to a 16" anyway), and since there's no price difference, we'll make it work.2.) The strings are RUBBISH. Had to replace every single string (they ALL snapped) before we could even try it.3.) Bridge is very soft balsam wood, and I had to supplement plastic barriers to prevent the strings from continuously gouging deeper grooves into the wood.4.) Had to use a plastic support to stabilize the C string in order to get a consistent tone (design of the viola allowed for terrible "warbling" on this string).5.) It's very quiet-- it's hard to amp more volume out of this instrument. (Yes, I'll get expensive strings to help compensate.)6.) Not sure the instrument is made of real wood?Why I'm keeping it:1.) Tone is surprisingly very good. Very quiet for a viola, but the sound is resonant, clear and rich.2.) Once you add fine tuners and good strings, it's a very functional instrument. Tunes easily and stays in tune, and it sounds surprisingly lovely even in the hands of a student.3.) It's a huge instrument, but it's light enough that it isn't a strain on the neck/ shoulders to play.4.) SUUUUUUCH a good price for such a unique instrument. Haven't been able to find any other 5-string violas elsewhere, and we'd have to spend a lot of money to custom-build a better one. GREAT for a student.5.) My child loves it-- it's more mellow than a violin, but it's marvelous being able to play those five strings.

It's okay after fixing up, though it needs a lot of fixing up. However, it apparently was not measured correctly and my 16" instrument is only 15". The difference is significant enough for me to have bought the wrong set of strings, not realizing I would need to check.The cost after fixing up is ultimately more than the instrument itself. You should seriously consider spending more on something you know you can trust.

I bought two of these. The E, A, and D strings broke on both before they were even close to being up to pitch. One has grooves in the nut and notches in the bridge, while the other has neither. Both cases are rubbish. The bows are decent and pretty straight. That being said, even with having to put some money into fixing the problems, the price seems appropriate. If you’re looking for a five string Stradivarius, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a teaching instrument on which you can both violin and viola notes, this is a decent choice.

The size of the instrument is a well fit for me. The case is spectacular as well. The 5 strings allow me to play violin music while still playing the viola. The size produces a powerful sound. I did change out the strings to fit my playing style. This was an amazing find and I am a happy owner.

L'instrument est de bonne facture vu le prix pas cher. Attention que j'ai dû payer un supplément de 80,00 euros de droits de douane. Le vendeur dit qu'il a déjà été payé mais ne m'a pas envoyé le reçu que j'ai demandé pour le prouver.

楽器としては非常にコスパ良く問題ありません。私はロックのギターパートを弾いたりして楽しんでいます。ただ注意点があります。まず付属の弦は低品質で使い物にはなりません。そもそもこのビオラを購入する人は通常のビオラに高音弦のE線が追加されビオラとバイオリンの両音域を楽しみたいと思います。しかし私の見立てでは装着されている弦にE線はありません。1stから5thにかけ、ADGCと思われる弦そして不明な太い弦(C？F？)が装着されています。これをEADGCだと思ってチューニングすれば間違いなく弦は切れますね(笑)。マンドリン用の長いE線だけ買ってあとの弦をずらして正しく使っても弦自体が低品質でチューニングは安定しないし音も最悪なのでどっちにしてもゴミ箱行きです。あと、魂柱の位置調整、駒とナットの高さ及び弦間距離修正、並びにペグの回り調整が必要です。私は自分で修正と調整しましたが自分でできる人以外はリペアに出さないと弾きにくくて使い物にならないと思います。そんなわけでちゃんとした弦とリペア代で3万円くらい追加予算を組んでおいた方がいいと思います。とは言え5弦ビオラと言うレアな楽器を低価格で入手できるわけですから十分それなりの価値はあるような気がします。特に自分で手持ちの魂柱立てやヤスリなどを使って調整し費用を節約できる方にはおすすめです。ちなみに中国出荷ですが配達まで2週間かからず思ったより早かったのには感謝しています。

Je l'ai reçu avec 3 cordes cassées. Peu de temps après que j'ai accordé l'instrument avec des cordes neuves, le manche s'est décollé à la jonction avec la caisse. J'ai alors pu constater que les éclisses sont en bois laminé (3 couches) et pas en bois massif. Il semble que le tirant des cordes soit trop fort. Par ailleurs les filets sont tracés, et non véritables, et l'un d'entre eux n'était même pas correctement fait.
