The system is well worth the listed price of under $100. It does NOT come with a hard drive. However will still work without one for live streaming the footage to your phone wherever you are throughout the world. The 19" flat screen tv I had intended to have as a 24 hour live monitor for this setup was incompatible until I adjusted the settings on the dvr using a compatible 42 inch tv. Zosi's website offers may solutions to problems that customers may have. It is very user-friendly and allows you to submit a trouble ticket if you can't find the solution on your own ( or if your too busy to search through and troubleshoot yourself). My issue of the default password not allowing me to login after I first turned on the system was handle via email and took only a few days from the time I submitted the ticket. I did find a program that could be downloaded form the website that would 'restore the system to default settings' which initially seemed to discourage me of how easy someone could reset the system once inside and cover any tracks of their involvement, but that was mainly because of my personal life and trusting full-heartedly the wrong people. I assume most people wouldn't take the time to have the program on a usb drive prior to breaking into someone's home. The 4 camera that came with the system seem very sturdy. The adjustable sliding metal shield ( like a baseball cap shields the sun and rain from our faces) is a nice touch although make sure it fits in the grooves and takes some tension to adjust it both inward and outward. One of the camera's adjustable screws that held the camera to the stand was too loose and separated from each other, however very easy to rescrew and correct the problem. Even though at the time of this review I am unable to get into the settings of my system, I was still able to view the 4 camera's on a grid pattern of my living room tv. The quality was better than expected. The night vision seems a bit too sensitive, as I fiddled with one of the cameras in doors it had continuously made the familiar "click' sound when switching to and fro night vision too much. The video feed as a result creates blind spots in coverage overed from that video feed for about 10 seconds until it automatically leveled out the contrast and such. Therefore it eliminates potential installation areas around the house I would assume. A branch that sways easily blocking out the sunrise or sunset every few seconds, if that camera was mounted pointing in that direction the feed would be painstaking to watch live. The DVR's hdmi port was very tight, it took some pressure in order to get the hdmi cord to seat properly. I tested with a second hdmi cord and same outcome. At least I know it will not easily detach itself, would make permanent placing of the dvr system a bit easier if placing in a tight, non-easily accessible spot though. ( one less cord to try and reattach if it were to unattach while placing the unit in tight place pre-attached to the wiring. Also the DVR's fan is quite loud! I suggest placing the DVR in a closet away from living area and bedroom's to prevent unwanted background noise form disturbing your movie or sleep. If a closet is far away from where you wish to have your live monitor ( assuming you wish to have on e at all after initial setup and configuration) I suggest running an HDMI cord from the DVR to your monitor. A 25 foot HDMI cord runs around $15 or a 50 foot hdmi cord around $25. The 4 100 foot cords that feed the cameras power and send the video signal to the dvr system, is an eye sore! However once thought to be a must have for those concerned with privacy utmost privacy. ( although if you hook it up to your router for live feed to your phone where ever you go in the country, I would imagine it's easier to tap into your system after bypassing your firewall vs sitting within 100 yards of your wifi camera's, trying to capture packets sent through the wifi spectrum of signals and decipher and decode the feeds to only be able to spy on you when they are within close proximity of your home.) The cables are not shielded very heavily, thus they are able to bend easier and be stuffed int he corner under the running boards a bit easier. As long as these cords are not ran through heavy traffic area under the carpet or otherwise, they should perform without a hitch. A potential downside of the 100 foot cables is the connections, the cameras themselves do NOT connect directly into the video feed of the dvr, you must connect into one of the ends of the 100 foot cord and have the opposite end plug into the box. As best I could tell the coupling is not easily detachable and/or transferable to the camera's pigtail. if a short distance is all you require from the camera you could purchase a shorter length cable or cut, splice and solder after mounting your camera and DVR if the extra wiring becomes to big of a bundle than desired if rolling it up and tucking away is not an out of sight option that is. Final thoughts:For the price, this system offers 4 durable camera's with features both mechanical and within the settings of that expected from a higher priced unit. (motion detection and specific areas of the camera video feed to ignore of movement occuring to kick start the recording option and/or notification of movement has occured. The DVR itself doesn't take up alot of room but the noise generated isn't ideal for placing in a living room or bedroom if you enjoy things to be quite. The system is capable of streaming 8 cameras in total if you choose to purchase 4 additional camera's or have 4 other cameras with the same connection capabilities already I imagine would easily integrate those cameras. Although the 100 foot cords are an eye sore when ran straight across the room, if properly tucked under carpet and ran under the running boards away form high traffic areas, it definitely is the better choice to go with than placing wireless security camera's if you are not a carpenter or electrician and skilled at tapping into electrical feeds to gain power if the place you decide to mount your wireless camera is not near an electrical outlet). The website's easy navigation and the ease at which to create a trouble ticket or search the knowledge base is probably the best added feature of this specific system.

Update 5: 6/17/22 - I was having problems with the playback feature on the ZOSI AVSS app, running on my WIN10 laptop. I opened a ticket with ZOSI and I was contacted by Slina the same day. So it seems their support has improved considerably. In update 4 I said that the current (at that time) release had problems and they let me download a newer version, which worked well but after a while the playback stopped working. The monitoring side was working well. Slina advised me to uninstall AVSS and install a different version and it's all working quite well now. I'm pleased with the improved response.UPDATE 4: Bumping this up to 4 stars. The Android ZOSI app is working better now on my Samsung S8, after some updates from them. Recently I replaced my WIN7 laptop with a WIN10 and the ZOSI app for windows posted on their website was making my Office 2013 email app crash or hang. I contacted ZOSI support and the next morning Mancy contacted me with a solution that worked. It was a newer ZOSI app for Windows. I uninstalled the one from their website and installed the new one; problem solved.UPDATE 3: I'm bumping this up a star. They updated the Android ZOSI Smart App on the phone. It's working much better now. Before, you couldn't get it to playback at specific points. Now it's just a matter of sliding a timeline through the red line, stopping where you want to view. Searching is much better now. The DVR is still very difficult to work with. I had a difficult time just trying to get the correct time to display. GMT was way off when you did a refresh. I finally did a complete reset and reboot of the hardware. Then I set the time and date and now it's working OK. I'm afraid to touch it. I'm hoping they're going to fix the Windows app as well.UPDATE 2: I finally received a replacement DVR from ZOSI, about 11/5/19. That's pretty sad service, from the first of August until November. I exchanged emails with them 2-3 times a week, sometimes several a day. All that back and forth to get them to understand what the problem is. I returned my DVR to them for inspection but they said they will not reimburse me shipping because it's more than 4 months old. They said they would send a replacement but it was nearly a month before it was shipped to me. It's been running for about a week and I've not had any network errors. The replacement uses newer software than my original unit and some features, like remote access to the DVR, are no longer available. There was software called IVSS that allowed you to do a few things remotely, but it won't connect to this new DVR's software. It doesn't even see it. I can view the cameras remotely but I cannot manage the DVR in any way. All changes have to be made at the console. You can remotely start a video recording but you cannot remotely playback recordings made at the console unless you play them back from the console. The android app or the Windows software is very, very slow. Live streaming is in 5 second chunks, you can't follow anything on camera, even on the home network. It's staggered or it completely freezes for large chunks of time.I would not recommend this CCTV security system and I'll replace it with something else in the coming year.UPDATE 1: The DVR started having problems in July 2019. I contacted ZOSI Direct in early August and have been working with them ever since, several emails a week. The DVR started rebooting and losing its network connection so you could not monitor the cameras remotely. ZOSI support kept telling me (several times over) to check my network connections, take screen shots and email the pictures to them. I discovered that when the hard drive was installed it caused the rebooting. I unplugged the hard drive and no more rebooting, I could see the cameras remotely. I added an external power supply for the hard drive and that solved the problem, so there was something wrong with the circuit board. I told ZOSI support about this and they said to send my DVR to an address in New Jersey and they would replace the DVR and refund my shipping costs. I just needed to send them a copy of the tracking receipt from UPS.I scanned and sent the UPS receipt and emailed to ZOSI, ZOSI replied with the tracking number for the replacement. That tracking number showed the package being delivered to a different state. I emailed ZOSI support when tracking showed the package arriving in the other state, but received no response. I contacted them a couple more times in the following week, again, no response. I've opened a new ticket with ZOSI support about the issue and still no response.I don't know what's going on but I suspect they have gone out of business. I strongly suggest that you not do any business with them.=========================================================================================I had a ZMODO system similar to this ZOSI that failed. ZMODO no longer make a system that will use the 720p cameras and I wasn't wanting to climb around in the attic and walls to run new wiring. I contacted the seller and they said my cameras should work. I also had the 1tb hard drive from the ZMODO system that I was sure was still working. This system, unlike the ZMODO, doesn't allow viewing DVR recordings from your phone or PC client. You can see the live cameras, take a picture or start recording locally (phone or PC client), but you cannot access previous DVR recordings except at the DVR console. There is also an iVSS remote admin function software included, but it is only for use on your home LAN.I ordered the ZOSI and it was shipped quickly, no problems, packaged very well. I followed the directions for setup and added my old hard drive to the case. They even provide the screws to secure it to the case. I attached the ZMODO cameras to the bayonet connections on the ZOSI, plugged in the Ethernet connection and powered up. I followed directions and formatted the hard drive. The system was up and running, I could see all 4 of the original cameras and it was in manual recording mode. Perfect, and now I have 4 extra cameras to add to my system.[Technical note: I use a DHCP reservation for my ZOSI DVR, which gives it the same internal IP each time. I still checked the "Obtain IP address automatically" and opened the 5000-5001 ports in my router's Port Forwarding setting.]REGISTER with your smart phone. You need to do this next in order to set up the account that you PC/Laptop will use for remote access.I downloaded the app from Google Play, took the REGISTER option, where you enter a user ID and password (your choice) to set up a new account. This is how you will be able to access the cameras from outside your home network (remote). Once you are logged in (write down the user ID and password you gave it in case you forget) you take the MANAGE DEVICE to add your system. Give it a name, enter/scan the device ID on the DVR, user ID and password is the one you gave it when you set up the system (admin + password), then choose the number of cameras. (8) for me and SAVE. Then go back to the menu and choose LIVE PREVIEW. You need to tap one box which lets you choose a camera for that window. Do others the same way. Whether you are on your home network or away you will be able to do this. Setting up the account notifies ZOSI about your home IP. You may need to open your router's port forwarding for ports 5000-5001 to allow external access to the ZOSI device's IP address.Install the PC client on your device using the included DVD or from the ZOSI web site download, which has the most current version. Log in with the account you created in setting up the account on your smart phone. Double-click each camera under the Device List and it will open in the appropriate window (or select a window and double-click a camera). This will allow access on your home network or another external network, like your smart phone WiFi sharing option. For the price of this DVR I am very happy to not have to spend more just to get my old ZMODO cameras recording again. It's a small investment for a big return. The MODO lasted 5 years of 24/7 monitoring and recording. I'm hoping the ZOSI will work as well. Perhaps I'll upgrade when this wears out. :-)

It comes with power supplies, cables and everything you need for an easy setup. At this price, pretend that the 1280x720P cameras are $20 each (way worth it) and the DVR, etc. are free. Not perfect. It reboots itself for no reason every two days or so, but it goes right back to recording, A minor pain. I trust that like all things non-Logitech, the software will mature. The DVR doesn't remember your display setup between reboots. And let us use a keyboard instead of having to hunt and peck with a mouse. It promotes short, simple, unsafe passwords. But, again, overall I am very happy with the technology and the value. The fact that the cameras and the recorder both run on simple 12VDC presents a host of ways to backup the power for extended outages. I should mention that streaming to the iPhone app (ZOSI VIEW) is PERFECT. Doesn't fail when flipping between cameras or going full-screen like my old security system did. That makes camera setup very convenient since you can see what you are doing. I recommend that you buy one and get secure.
