The final polish in this kit is aluminumoxide which is what the professionause (as opposed to silicon carbide)
If you are expecting nice shiny stones you will have to runthe last stage. The aluminum oxide is what really makesthem shine (providing you have done everything else correctly).

The grit works as expected. I appreciate that it comes in containers instead of plastic bags like some others. I also appreciate that they are specific grades of grit identified instead of just "course" or "fine" grit.

This 10lb set of rock tumbling grit is fantastic-it will keep me tumbling for awhile! I'm excited to see the results of this grit.Features:3lbs of step one3lbs of step two2.5lbs of step 31.5lbs of step 4Note:Step 3 is made of the same material as step 1 and 2-its silicon carbide. Silicon carbide is NOT an ideal pre polish/stage 3, from my years of experience. Ideally you would use aluminum oxide 400-600 grit. I've discovered that the silicon carbide doesn't do as fine a pre polish, and can therefore cause dull rocks even after the final stage 4 polish of aluminum oxide 1200 grit (which is included with this set). So, ultimately, in order to achieve super glossy rocks, I will not be using the included stage 3 silicon carbide as a pre polish. I will be replacing it with an aluminum oxide 400-500 grit, and finishing with the included aluminum oxide 1200 stage four. I intend to use some of the included silicon carbide stage 3 in my pre-pre polish.I am nearly at the end of stage 1 with my test tumbler. I will update after I get the final polishing results.As of the time of this review, 3/9/2024, this set is about 32 doll hairs. This is a great value, even considering that I will be replacing stage 3 with aluminum oxide that I purchased separately.*Please view pictures and any video as I consider them part of my full review.

What I like is it works and what I dislike is the overall cost of grit that I need to use. But better than nothing.

Unfortunately this product did not completely shine my rocks in the end. I ran all stages longer than I normally do as well to try to produce a good finish. It didn't work. The price for the amount of grit is nice but that's about it. I used a different grit and it worked well so I know it's the grit and not the user.
