Surface temperature is within a degree or two which is very impressive for this kind of item. Don’t use on a metal surface which will pull heat out and you will be fine. Tested against a calibrated instant read probe / great performance and exceptional quality for the cost. The soil temperature was also about a degree cooler than the surface temperature which is to be expected (and will vary depending on your setup). I did a fair bit of research - If you’re thinking about a heat mat, just buy this one.

These don't seem to get as warm as another brand I tried, but they are cardboad flat, not puffy and padded like the other. A little longer cord, too. Good price.

I was expected the entire mat to heat up, it barely heats up on each end about an inch on each end. This was a waste of money. If they were giving it away, I still would not want it.

Got two adjustable heater mats. I like the idea of being adjustable instead of a having a mat that's either fully on or off. I plugged the first one in and used a laser thermometer to confirm the heat setting. The mat doesn't seem to reach the set temperature. Both my laser thermometer and the environment thermometer read pretty close to each other (68 and 70). But one mat doesn't appear to warm up at all, regardless of the setting, although the controller says it's reaching 85 degrees. According to my laser, it's only 70 degrees, and I have the setting for the mat at 90! I plugged in the other mat and set it to 90 also and the laser says it's getting to 85 degrees in the center. But taking random measurements from about one inch from the edge all around, it's only averaging to 75 degrees. They work, that meaning they do warm up slightly. But the readings don't match what two other thermometers say, and they definitely don't warm up the entire mat. I don't recommend.

Good heating mats. I have twenty from four different brands that I use for my setup. I grow a lot of plants from cuttings and it really helps with growing good roots. I also use them for slow to start plants like canna, calla, dahlias and such. The heat gives them a head start rather than waiting for the garden planting time and starting from there, you can get a month or two head start. Of course it depends on your setup, I have taken over the basement. Anyway these are good mats with heating film instead of wires. Good spread of heat and has the UL listing.

Received quickly. One thing to remember is that if you are putting the heating mat on a metal shelf, you need to but a towel or other piece of fabric under it. I originally put the heating mat directly on a metal shelf and it did not heat well at all. A small towel under it fixed the problem.
